State 4A -- Millbrook defeats Grafton 10-3

Milbrook will play for the 1st ever Virginia 4A title after defeating Grafton 10-3 in a game played at Liberty University. The Pioneers collected 10 hits and benefitted from four Grafton errors. Bruce Keenan was 3 for 3 with four runs scored and two RBI.


Freshman Anthony Simonelli struckout five batters in five innings to get the win.


Millbrook took a 1-0 lead when Keenan single to start the inning and he scored on an error at 3rd base on a ball hit by Ryan Hartigan. A throwing error by Evan Sperling to 3rd base allowed Keenan and Trenton Burgreen to score in the 4th inning. VMI recruit Jacob Jaye increased the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single.


An error lead to two more runs in the 4th inning and Millbrook broke the game open with a 4-run 5th inning that extended the lead to 10-0. A single by Keenan scored two runs and Burgreen and Jaye added RBI single.


Grafton loaded the bases in the top of the sixth to chase Simonelli. The Clippers scored three runs but reliever Trey Braithwaite was able to get the final two outs after walking in a run.
