I wish all games were not played on same day. I would like to be able to see the 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A championship games, but it's impossible.
In the words of the great Ken Beatrice...."If wishes and buts were candy and nuts, oh what a Christmas party we'd have".I wish all games were not played on same day. I would like to be able to see the 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A championship games, but it's impossible.
Actually, HR's idea is not all that bad. There could be a state championship weekend, similar to what we see in basketball, and it could be held in as central a location as possible, say UVa for example. There could be two games a day from Friday to Sunday, such as 1-A title game at 2:00 Friday, 2-A title game at 7:00 Friday, 3-A title game at 2:00 Saturday, 4-A title game at 7:00 Saturday, 5-A title game at 2:00 Sunday, and 6-A title game at 7:00 Sunday. Tickets could be the usual $10.00 per game, or they could sell a "season pass" for say $35.00 and you could come and make a weekend of it and see as many games as you want.
I am sure they know that it is not just that teams fans. Besides what about all the workers, maybe they don't want to spend their entire weekend workingThat may make too much sense for VHSL. VHSL thinks that only fans who come to state championship games are those fans from team that is playing.
I agree and UVa would be the perfect location for something like what Florida and Texas does. Central location and adequate facilities. I know they play the Florida games in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl and I believe they play the Texas games in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl, unless they have been moved to Cowboys Stadium since it opened. If those states can make it work there is no reason the VHSL can't.Probably for the winning team to enjoy the victory without hustling them off the field to start another game. I think it's excessive currently as well but you wouldn't want to stack the games too tight unless there was an adequate facility to have warm ups for the teams that follow.
