After a slow start, the Stone Bridge offense gashed Westfield repeatedly for big plays to take a relatively easy 34-16 win.
Westfield's Morin picked off a Stone Bridge double pass on the first play of the game but WF failed to move the ball and punted quickly-a harbinger of things to come. The Westfield defense held Stone Bridge in check for most of the first half, but SB was able to get a 37 yard touchdown run from Block on the first play of the second quarter and a 19 yard Breece run just before half to go into the locker room leading 12-0 (XP blocked on the first TD; 2XP failed on the second). Westfield was unable to generate any sustained offense at all and punted on all 6 first half drives.
The 4th quarter saw a flurry of TDs. Stone Bridge's Block scored again on the first play of the 4th quarter to extend the lead to 18-0 (2 XP stopped), before Westfield finally got on the board when Frimpong caught a 5 yard pass to make the score 18-7 in favor of SB with 9:55 to play in the game. SB immediately answered with a Block 65 yard run where he broke several tackles, restoring the 3 TD lead at 26-7 (2XP run was good) at the 9:34 mark. Westfield tried to stay close, quickly answering with a 55 yard Johnson to Eckert pass to pull to 26-14 with 9:10 to play. SB again moved quickly down the field, converting a 4th and 3 at the WF 25 yard line along the way, and scored again when Lawyer ran it in from 3 yards out to make it 34-14, SB. WF would block a punt on SB's next possession deep in the SB end of the field but could not recover the ball in the end zone and the result of the play was a safety for the final score, 34-16.
The only bright spots for Westfield were Morin, who had three picks at cornerback filling in for an injured Free, and kicker Delaney. Although he punted 9 times, the kicks were NFL caliber (I am not joking). The nine high, booming punts ranged from 45 to 61 yards in the air, averaging 51.7 yards, but only netting 37.4 yards because 7 of the 9 punts landed inside the 15 yard line and bounced into the end zone (he was outkicking his coverage). Phenomal kicking tonight for Delaney; UVA is getting a fantastic punter.
The bright spot for SB, IMO, was their entire offense. Multiple players contributed all night long. Even though WF got a few stops for short yardage on almost every drive, SB was able to successfully gain huge chunks of yardage and managed to get great line push and dragged would be tacklers for several yards on more than a few runs.
