If you ain't interested in this, don't read it.

I connected up with a dude yesterday down in Northumberland County.

We were like long lost bros swapping war stories (friends, parties, sports, family) from back in the day (actually some were literally about the military ha - 82nd Airborne)

I am sure outsiders are like why does guy love the Neck so much? I would wonder too.

Growing up and living in the Neck/Essex/Middle Peninsula reminds me a tad of what they say living that Texas culture is like.

The Neck area has produced two US presidents who were born here. General Robert E Lee is from the Neck, rivers are everywhere, people are friendly, tourist shops abound.

Heck, I recently got baptized again as adults so we could all be dipped in the Rappahannock River.

Many people hang out in many of the counties, sports are big here, I've seen many brawls over the years, sometimes its hard to get the kids fired up for states after they win the Neck.

I remember once playing Little League Football for Richmond County v Colonial Beach like in 7th grade. All out brawl during the handshakes, coaches fighting...then I went out with CB blond chick in high school, one of my best buds in the college years was from CB.

"Hey, did you swing on me back in the 7th grade...." lol.

Last story - but a good one - reminds me of that Varsity Blues movie (except this happened a while back).

Sharps,Va - a small village on the Rappahannock River -

Back in my college years. Pier, River, Beach Party.

We rolled in - somebody had brought several Sorority Sisters home. "Dang, this is gonna be a good one."

Party was too chill- we were like somebody get this thing going.

A few minutes later, one of the boys rolled up the pier (a successful businessman now lol) "What's up? you crazy ---- -----, this party is ----lame, check out my ---- bad --- new shirt (he opened his jacket).

It read "American by Birth, Northern Necker By the Grace of God"

Everyone roared, the music got turned up and ,needless to say, that wild party went on all night....

Little old Sharps, Virginia had a 1st round draft pick in the NBA back in 1999. Cal Bowdler brought crowds wherever he played. It's very rare to see a 6'11 guy in these parts. He had a great career at ODU and got to play 3 seasons in the NBA. In high school, we beat Rappahannock twice his senior year, but he scored 40 in both games. Our tallest player was 6'3. Great memories. Hard to believe that has been 24 years ago since those high school days.

Good people.

I think I may seen have one of those games (was living in NC and Fredericksburg for a bit so did not see many of his games).

It was packed. Bowdler scored a bunch but Rapp lost.
