i've heard of these Super Camps and it has become highlighted by what Harbaugh at Michigan is doing. Going to Florida and other Regions that are normally not in their recruiting areas. Up to 500 kids get to go to these camps. But as Ole Miss Coach Hugh Freeze said on Don and Mike this morning, "The reality is we're only here to look at 1 or 2 players. That 's just what recruiting is at this time. It's a disservice to the other participants but it is what it is."

Any thoughts on this?

Harbaugh did spring practice, different than a camp. Camps are for the recruits, and lower tier schools would also attend to look at potential recruits. NCAA, totally screwed over high school kids, lower tier schools and those Div 1 schools that are not in well populated areas!

That is correct that Harbaugh did his Sping camp in Fla. for his Michigan team. Exposure to that talent pool was certainly part of it. But that's not what we're talking about here.

Plenty of Camps out there and it's a good thing for a kid to experience. The bottom line is, the Coachs are there to see the kids that have been invited. The rest are fodder. Unless, of course, you have a player that suddenly produces a 4.4 40. It does happen.

Most of those camps are complete waste of money. There are 1000 kids at some of the big schools one day camps. Do you really think that Michigan is going to notice your kid if he wasn't already on their radar? They are going to pull 25 kids out of the 1000 and take them over on a separate field and work them out. The other 975 are going to run through drills and get a t-shirt. But colleges are happy to bring 1000 kids in because it is $50 minimum a kid for a one day camp. You can do the math. That is not a bad days supplemental pay for the assistant coaches.

So many parents and kids are delusional about their ability. The best thing they can do is have an honest conversation with their high school coach about what level they can play and where their grades will allow them to go. Then if you are still interested in playing at that level, choose 5 schools that you would go to regardless of sports. Go to those schools one day camps and let the coaches see you in person.

Right on the money
