Sharmane Alexander's catch for the two-point conversion was enough to lift the Bulldogs to victory.

DENDRON- With a slight chill in the air as October winds down and the games become more meaningful as the regular season gives way to the playoffs. Surry County wanted to make sure they would be in the post season by winning instead of depending on others to lose. Brunswick wanted to keep the momentum that they found from last week.

Surry came out excited and played some of their best defense early. Not to be outdone, Brunswick was solid on defense as well. As neither team could score in the 1st quarterback despite an array of offensive weapons on both teams. The second quarter would be different.

Brunswick was driving looking for the game's first points when Rodney Pierce picked off the Bulldogs Jadeen Person's pass inside his own 10 stealing the momentum. Surry's defense would overwhelm Brunswick on the Bulldogs next few possessions but when the offense couldn't move pinned inside their own territory is when Surry got their chance. Brunswick was forced to punt late in the second quarter with an 11-yard punt.

Quarterback Darius Savedge would stand tall in the pocket and deliver a perfect pass to Pierce from 11 yards out to give Surry a 6-0 lead with 1:36 left until halftime. Surry's defense would do all they could to get even more points with less than 30 seconds remaining and appeared to have gotten into scoring position again but fumbled. Brunswick nearly returned the fumble back for a touchdown as time in the first half expired. That play would be the spark the Bulldogs needed.

Brunswick would become more diverse offensively in the 2nd half showing more option and Person's running became a factor. Following big runs from Treven Easter, Jayvonte Elder, and Person, Brunswick would threaten to score late in the 3rd. Person would keep it on a option run from 7 yards out to give Brunswick their first lead at the 11:24 mark of the 4th. Malik Hicks would get the conversion giving Brunswick an 8-6 advantage.

Surry would respond quickly with flawless play calling. Less than 3 minutes after the Brunswick score, Savedge would find AJ Rawlings for a 30 yard touchdown pass to retake the lead with 8:42 left to play in the game. Savedge would then find Khalil Ransome with the 2-point conversion to make it 14-8 Surry.

Treven Easter rushed for 128 yards that got the Bulldogs going in the 2nd half.

Sharmane Alexander would step up for the Bulldogs on their next drive. Person would respond quickly hitting Hicks down the field setting the Bulldogs up quickly. It was Alexander's grab down the middle to the Surry 25 yard line was the back breaker and they weren't done yet. Person would run the option to perfection pitching it out to Elder for the 25-yard run to tie things up 14-14 all. Alexander would make a tough catch for the 2-point conversion giving Brunswick a 16-14 lead.

Brunswick would force Surry to punt with less than 5 minutes to play and could have milked the clock out after the running game got going. However, on 2nd and 8 with 1:14 left to play, Brunswick fumbled and the Cougars recovered at their on 14 yard line. Surry would quickly move down the field into Bulldogs territory.

Brunswick's Alexander would drop an interception during the drive. A few plays later Savedge would throw a pass to set up a better scoring opportunity but it would be tipped and intercepted by Hicks to close out the victory.

Brunswick goes to 4-5 along with Surry. The Cougars should still make the playoffs as Northampton, Lancaster, and West Point all lost. Brunswick can move up in the seeding by winning their rival game versus Greensville County. Surry will travel to 2nd rank Sussex Central in their rival game.
