Head coach Donnie Frazier’s Ridgeview girls basketball team gave him quite a birthday present – a win over Abingdon in a Mountain 7 District showdown.
Nikole Counts had 15 points, six steals and five assists as Ridgeview recorded the win and avenged an earlier overtime loss to the Falcons.
Ridgeview trialed 34-32 entering the fourth quarter, but closed the game on a 29-15 scoring surge.
Bailey Frazier (15 points), Nyla Gulley (12 points, 12 rebounds, five assists) and Amber Taylor (10 points, seven rebounds) also played well for the Wolfpack.
Grace Hess accounted for 24 of Abingdon’s 49 points.
Virginia High 67, Marion 44
Virginia High’s sharp-shooting duo of Jada Campbell (21 points) and Taylor Owens (19 points, 15 rebounds) starred for the Bearcats in a Southwest District smashing of Marion.
Kerrigan Bailey added 11 points for VHS, which remained atop the SWD standings.
Gracie Billings led Marion with 15 points. The Scarlet Hurricanes managed just 16 first-half points against a swarming defense. Amaya Lee, Campbell and Lauren Deleon came up with six steals apiece.
Virginia High, which also got nine assists from Lee, plays rival Tennessee High today at 5 p.m.
Wise County Central 52, John Battle 34
Dee Cvetnich tallied 15 points and Hannah Carter added 12 to lead the Warriors (17-1, 7-1) to a Mountain 7 District win over the Trojans.
Michaela Monk led John Battle with 12 points.

Paeton Phillippi recorded a 15-point, five-rebound stat line as the George Wythe Maroons rolled to a Mountain Empire District win over Grayson County.
Drea Betts added 11 points for the Maroons (9-10, 7-2), while Kenzie Ingo supplied seven rebounds.

Virginia High 73, Marion 65
Virginia High’s Gavin Austin pumped in 25 points as the Bearcats earned a Southwest District win over Marion.
Tyler Strong (14 points) and Alex Inman (11 points) also played well for victorious VHS. The Bearcats took control by dominating the third quarter, turning a 36-33 deficit into a 56-47 lead.
Taylor Vance led Marion with 14 points.

Noah Atwood had 21 points and 10 rebounds as George Wythe posted its most impressive win of the season, a Mountain Empire District triumph over the Grayson County Blue Devils.
GW fell behind 19-8 to start the game, but closed the first half on a 22-7 run.
The Maroons were 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 36 seconds to clinch the win. Jake Martin (14 points) and Josh Reeves (11 points) also played well.
Wes Ayers scored 21 points to lead Grayson County.

A magnificent middle portion of the game lifted the Warriors to a Mountain 7 District triumph on a milestone night for senior guard Dalton Mullins.
Mullins became the school’s career rebounding leader as Wise County Central outscored the Trojans by a combined 34-19 count in the second and third quarters.
Isaiah McAmis led the way for the Warriors with 18 points, Mullins added 17 and Tyler Vanover put in 15. Wise County Central also got four points and 10 rebounds from Ben Stallard.
Reed Samuel paced John Battle with 15 points and Cayden McConley added 13.
