Virginia High 55, Tazewell 52
Virginia High’s Amaya Lee tossed in 17 points to lead a balanced attack and the Bearcats remained atop the Southwest District girls basketball standings with a 55-52 triumph over Tazewell on Wednesday night.
VHS, now 6-0 in league play, also received 15 points from Taylor Owens and nine points from Kerrigan Bailey.
Dani Janutolo’s 20 points were tops for Tazewell.
BOYS
Virginia High 76, Tazewell 68
A strong performance from Tyler Strong helped the Virginia High Bearcats vanquish Southwest District foe Tazewell.
Strong poured in 34 points – 13 of which came in the third quarter – as VHS notched the win.
Alex Inman (14 points) and John Clifton (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Bearcats, who were playing without standout Gavin Austin.
Tazewell’s top scorer was Sidney Willis with 16 points.
Ridgeview 67, (1A) Castlewood 39
Wasn't in the paper today, but I was there. Wolfpack did enough to win the game, that's about all you can say about this one. Final non-district game of the season. Wolfpack finish up with district games against Wise Central (Friday), Lee High (Saturday), at Gate City (Tuesday) and at Lee High (a week from Friday) before the district tournament.
