The dunk went off the rim because Mac got a hand on it and didn’t allow Vaughn to dunk it.

There’s the video of Mac blocking the shot. You can clearly see him get a full hand on he ball causing it to slip out of Vaughn’s hand and thus off the side of the rim instead of being a vicious dunk.
