K J Cook (Sr), Joshua Fischer (Jr) and Jeremy Nelson (Sr) all qualified for the Indoor Track and Field State Meet at the first meet of the season, which was actually held outside on 01-18-17, "The Polar Bear" held at Ft Defiance on (01-18-17) finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th only behind tough 3A Fort Defiance Thrower, Zach Boyers (Sr).. The three returned to "The Fort" on 01-25-17 to compete in their second meet and again finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th, behind Boyers, the 3A Ft. Defiance Stud!
Cook (1), Fischer (2) and Nelson (3) are currently ranked 1, 2 and 3 among the combined 1A and 2A Indoor throwers.
Last year at the Outdoor State Meet held in Radford, the trio finished Cook then Jr. (2nd) Nelson then Jr. (3rd) and Fischer then So. (4th) behind Auburn's Taylor Naff, then Sr.
Barring any injuries it looks like it's stacking up to be a "shootout" between the three Blues Throwers this year as they again compete in both the Indoor and Outdoor events. The Outdoor events also include the Discus, in which Cook claimed the State Title last year as a Jr. and Fischer finished a respectable 7th as a So.
The Lady Blues Throwers also had one Shot thrower, Kiki George to qualify for the Indoor State Meet
Congratulations to all four of these student athletes and good luck to them in the near(far)future..
