I figured points for and points against was a better wording over offense/defense.

Offense:
1. Richlands 48.88
2. King William 40.37
3. Buckingham 39.88
4. Giles 39.5
5. Clarke 38.62
6. Union 38.5
7. Graham 36.25
8. Amelia 35.62
9. Greensville 35.5
10. East Rock 35
11. Stuarts Draft 34.75
12. Buffalo Gap 34.5
13. Central Wise 34.33
14. Central 33.12
15. James River 33.11

Defense

1. Glenvar 5.5
2. Appomattox 6.75
3. Clarke 9.87
4. Buffalo Gap 11.62
5. James River 12.33
6. Buckingham 13.22
7. Strasburg 13.5
8. Richlands 15.66
9. Wilson Memorial 16.25
10. Stuarts Draft 16.62
11. Union 17.37
12. Grayson 19.25
13. Central 19.37
14. Giles 21.25
15. Central Wise 21.33

So Union is winning by an average of three TDs, pretty impressive considering they've only played two really bad teams in Lee and Eastside.

They sure have!

Their opponents they've played so far are 39-23 in games not against them, winning 62% of their games. Schedule looks pretty good

I mean its not quite Richlands-level or Clarke-level or margin of victory, but impressive nonetheless considering Union has played a great schedule so far. Even David Crockett is having a better year than most anticipated. GC technically has the worst record Union has faced but they are much better than their record. Eastside may have 2-3 wins but they are terrible.
But Richlands, David Crockett, Central, Lee, Ridgeview, Gate City, and Burton are all good teams and will make the playoffs. Burton is the top seed in 1A West, having only the loss to Union. Richlands has only lost to Union. The Bears always play a pretty good schedule, I would much rather see them schedule teams like Richlands and use those games to find out how good you really are instead of scheduling a bunch of cupcake games just to pad stats and the record, thanks for the info about Union's opponents!

Their opponents actually have won more of their games than Richlands and Clarkes opponents have I'm fairly positive.

Dont get caught up in this illustration for ONE MOMENT that Appomattox dont put up numbers on O! This illustration of offense is very deceptive and insufficient. I am thankful Raiders have a head coach that is humble. He truly feels in playing his 2s and 3s when the score is up (giving them experience and giving JV some time to play on next level). I despise teams that keep starters in to pad stats and keep in starters until last 3 minutes of games. I dont even feel bad if a player gets hurt when greedy coaches want to take advantage of opposition and humiliate teams. I might get crucified for saying that, but it is what it is...

An example of Coach Smith's humbleness happened last week vs. Nelson County. We had them 38-0 by halftime. He rested majority of the starters on both sides of the ball. If the 1st stringers were on the field, I would hate to see the score by the end of the game. We gave up one TD using our reserve players in 2 quarters of football. Our coach has done this throughout the year numerous times.

One other example of this would the the Dan River game. By halftime, Appo had them 35-7 with 11:38 left in 3rd quarter. Rain started, game stopped, Dan River through up the white flag and went home. Raiders didnt play 2 whole quarters of football.

So I say again, them numbers are deceptive...

Which team among the best offenses mixes up the pass and run the best? Is that even important at the 2a level? Clarke County is probably 90% run and is very successful during the regular season. They almost had 700 yards rushing last week alone. Do you need a varied attack to win at the state level?

Richlands starting offense has played the whole game only twice. Union and Bluefield, WV. In every other game, the starting offense has been rested. In one game, our starters were resting in the 2nd quarter when it was 49-0. In last weeks game, we rested our starters in the early 4th quarter once we had running clock against Abingdon. In the remaining 5 games, we have subbed after the first series of the 3rd quarter.

Richlands stats could be out of the building if Mance didn't show mercy once we get up to the running clock point.

I respect that in coaches. Hats off to him!

Please, Clarke really only had one game that was close this season and that was a loss to Millbrook. Clarke's win margins are due mainly to the caliber of their opponents, which currently have a losing record. It's the perils of being in a district that has been down lately. It's been fun winning, but those wins mean nothing really if they don't end up going deep into the post season play. I'm praying that we do well this year!

Same with Union. Starters have played in three games, Richlands, GC, and Wise. We subbed the first stringers out in the second quarter against Eastside after scoring 42 first quarter points, and always brings in teh backups when Union gets a 20+ point lead. Lee, Burton, Eastside, Ridgeview, and one other game coulda been a lot worse ubt Turner pulled starters.

I'm not sure there is a less meaningful stat than this....
Way too much variance to extrapoliate anything meaningful.

I think Glenvar has done a great job of mixing the pass and the run and is one of the most balanced attacks I have seen. That is one of the big reasons they have emerged to an elite level and I have to give it to the coaching staff on this one. Teams knew a few years ago that Glenvar was a run first offense and they would fill the box. That just doesn't work anymore. If you fill the box they will go long on you even on 3rd and short.

I agree Goat ...they are interesting to talk about within a limited area of the state where teams play like teams but you can't compare teams with this stat outside an area. They lead to some conversations so they may be worthwhile...but in the end it's comparing apples with oranges.

That's what was said last year, yet the numbers were strongly in favor of the two who ended up in Salem......

It's just a fun number to look at. Some are into analytics and some aren't.

Union is very balanced as well. People talk about the big time pass attack with two 6'4 athletes out there likeRandy Moss and a Randle Cobb-like playmaker, but they wore Richlands down in he second half with the run. I would wager Union has three rushers with least 500 yards and 5 TDs.

Bigwinners, you have every right to be happy and talk good about your team . They are undefeated and did beat Richlands. I am of the opinion that your contual chest thumping will not matter in about three weeks. All six of the teams will have very tough playoff rounds where somebody else's chest thumping will be somebody else's satisfaction.

Should be great for us fans but I know a lot of the teams not being mentioned much are loving this. Last year when the playoffs started nobody was talking about us and we was one play from going to State playing on enemy turf.....lol

I didnt meant it to come off as bragging or chest thumping, just trying to illustrate that Union can run on good teams as well as throw.

I honestly believe Richlands has the best balanced attack, they can hit short and long passes with 6 different receivers, they have a ~1400 yd rusher and a huge TE. They are extremely balanced and I've see. Union, Bluefield, Abingdon and Graham play. I think Union can hit the big play but IMO it comes from the deep jump ball passes that their athletes can go up and make plays for. I see their offense easier to stop or slow down than Richlands. I cannot comment about any others but from the stats I've see other than Abingdon I dont see any other team or in 2A that can pass the ball like Richlands
