Top 25 players in the 804

This site is so dead. I’ve been on NC Preps and they’re talking ball year around. If I had to give a public school top 25 (not factoring in stars), I’m going;

1. ATH Harry Dalton- Dinwiddie
2. WR DaMari D1 Carter- Varina
3. ATH Andre Clarke- Herm
4. ATH Markel Dabney - Huguenot
5. S Shamari Earls- Dale
5. LB Brennan Johnson- Highland Springs
6. WR Bryce Yates- Mataoca
7. RB Michael Dabney Jr- Huguenot
8. DL Bull Richardson- Varina
9. DE Caleb Williams- Mataoca
10. QB Jason Wright- Bird
11. ATH Braylon Hood- Varina
12. TE Matt Henderson-Powhatan
13. S Kamden Tiller- Glen Allen
14. WR Dillon Newton-Short- Mataoca
15. WR Iveon Lewis- Huguenot
16. DE Sam Cohen- Huguenot
17. RB Montino Williams- Mataoca
18. ATH Ziggy Miller- Huguenot
19. WR Ben Whitver- Powhatan
20. RB EB Byrd- Highland Springs
21. QB Nelson Layne- Highland Springs
22. ATH John John Washington- Huguenot
23. ATH Chris Whitehead- Bird
24. RB Darren Williams- Henrico

How’d I do @CRF4Dan??

Yeah it’s sad. I lose a lil faith in high school sports then I read the NC Preps boards and see it’s alive and well. 804 Football is extremely strong and only getting better.

You don’t think much of Johnson from Highland Springs?!

I think there are several players who could make that list. B. Johnson would definitely be on my list. His play reminds me of a young Ray Lewis.

Dang.... Guess they don't value OL play where ever this is....... Not one OL! LOL. Great list, NOT.

Anything posted on this site is going to be through the lens of the person who posts it. Bo knows the overall state as well as any poster I know. Most posters are not going to be that well versed on the whole state. Most posters are going to be most familiar with their team, their regional area, or their Class of football. For example, when you see a post by me, you know I'm going to be most knowledgeable about Salem, I'm pretty knowledgeable about the Roanoke and Lynchburg areas, I know most about C3/4, I'm probably familiar with the best teams in the state and I probably know the big name players in the state, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert on other areas of the state or higher and lower classifications. I could probably tell you the history of past champions throughout most of the state for the last 40 years, but I'm definitely not knowledgeable enough about 703, 757, or 804 to tell you anything beyond the teams to keep your eye on.

Also, people watch for different things when they watch a game. The game begins and ends with the LOS, but a lot of people watch where the ball goes and not what caused the hole to open up or what sprang the skill guy to make the play. (I'm guilty of this myself) The OL/DL doesn't usually get the credit they deserve unfortunately.

Just keep those things in mind when you read someone's post.

Who did I miss that you’d put on your list? Bird and Manchester has quite a few that could be mentioned.

@MaroonDude There are some very good linemen in the 804.

@DMVmonster Hopewell has a few guys who definitely make the cut, but I don’t follow their program close enough to know their guys. I’ve seen every kid I posted play live and up close. Tee Jay and Armstrong will also be very good this year. Definitely have some kids who could be on the list.

@mike salem well said. I’d definitely make an argument for @DinwiddieProud and @BleedingNavy young man Zion Bossieau. I think him, Kaleb Wyche (Varina) and CJ Scott (Huguenot) will put the Central Region on the map as far as QB goes.

@HooSprings I made the correction. Brennan is one of the best linebackers I’ve seen on the high school level. If I could add anymore of yours, I’d add Demari Lassiter.

Another kid to keep an eye on is OL/DL Daron Thompson at Huguenot. He’s a MANCHILD! I’d also throw in Jaden Baskerville at Varina. 6’4 250, has a couple of D1 offers and is just a sophomore.

I totally understand and I'm the opposite I haven't really seen Huguenot mainly bc of their schedule--- I thought some players missed your list and I know we all have the right to make our own list instead of jumping on you for yours--- a few kids I still think that were left off was
QB Tatum Hopewell
QB Medley T. DALE

Two quality quarterbacks. Last season was their first seasons starting on varsity, I expect bigger seasons for them both. Like any list... you add two to it, you got to take two out.

and bounced in the first round last year......... lol
They were 1-9 the year before, so being 8-2 rs, qualifying for the playoffs, and losing by 1 point to a very good Varina team, with a new coach, is nothing to scoff at. It looks like they have things moving in the right direction. Maybe they take more big steps this year, we'll have to wait and see. Region B is running the gauntlet every year.

They must have had a heck of a JV and Middle School team to make that kind of turn around!

From my understanding Most of his guys are transfers and reclassed guys from when Scott was at LCA which is very smart even his son has offers without really any varsity Time. He gets coaches to his school and he gets his guys offers IMO he's doing something right the point is to get them to the next level right.

Not really. There’s a few transfers but a lot of those kids are South Richmond kids that Bird or Manchester would normally get if Huguenot was bad. Can’t speak on the reclass stuff, but that happens more often than none, everywhere.

It does not happen more often than not everywhere. Your statement would mean that over 50% of players have reclassed.

Another really good kid left off the list? Earlonte Winston from Herm. Picked up his first offer today from FCS Delaware State. One of the better running backs I’ve seen last year as well.

We are fortunate to have so many players within the region that they can't all make a Top 25. Says a lot for the level of talent running through the region and the coaching behind them.

We could probably do a top 50 and still have some really good players off the list.
