~Amherst's 42-40 win was the Lancers' first ever over Salem in the regular season. The Spartans had won all five previous regular season meetings.
~Amherst closed the gap in the all-time series to 10-5 in favor of Salem.
~Salem's 40 points are the most ever scored by a Spartan team in a losing effort. The previous high was in a 42-36 loss to Christiansburg in 2011.
~For Salem, the loss snapped a thirteen-game winning streak in season premieres. The last first-game loss came in 2002 to Brookville in a six-overtime epic, 27-20.
