In the spirit of the debate as to whether Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter should have their jersey #'s retired I pose this question to you.

If you could retire one players jersey from the school you support, who would it be?

There's been a lot of greats to come through King William. I've been following King William football since I was a young kid in the 80s. So many are worthy, but there's only one Demond Claiborne Class of 2021. All State POY. Nearly 3000 yards rushing in his senior year alone. 52 TDs in his senior year. Nearly 100 for his career, and would have been more if not for the abbreviated Covid season where he only played 3 games. Not to mention winning the state championship. He's about to head into his senior year at Wake Forest, and is their best player. He had over 1000 yards rushing this past season and was 3rd team All ACC RB and All Purpose. At 5'10 and around 205 lbs with his 4.3 speed, you'll definitely see him get drafted next spring and make it to the NFL.

At Buffalo Gap, to my knowledge, we have never had anyone even play in the NFL. We have only had one state champion team and the best player on that team was Pickle Nuckols. So that would be the one for Gap for me.

Radford-Kenny Alderman, 2 time state title winner 71 and 72, football QB and POY in 1972. Went on to play and start at Southern Miss. He was Radfords Landen Clark before the modern era, but for his time, he dominated like Clark for his era, but ended up with 2 state titles. Alderman was like Clark for his time, all around athlete, track, basketball, could play any sport, but he had major arm talent for a 1972 QB to go with the athleticism.

Other argument can be made for John Dobbins who was a great player in his own right, but became the first black football player at Va Tech in 1969 marking a huge moment in VT football history.

Argument can be made for Landen Clark, but it's too early. He put up video game numbers. But, to early to put him at top of list. Depends on how he does at Elon. Clark actually worked with the starting offense in the spring game at Elon a few weeks ago and may start as a redshift freshman at QB for Elon this year.

Bro I used to live in Radtown, of course you know wayyyyy more history about your school than me, but there’s been legend after legend to walk those halls. One of my favorite Radford players was Dontae Carter. Dude was insane on the football field and I watched him beat one of Southside’s best teams of the decade (Dan River) on the basketball court his senior year. BEAST!
