Tuscarora v Varina

Definitely a bad loss but it was first game of the yr. Most teams get better as the yr goes on. I don't see them winning this game
I’m asking was anyone hurt or something else happened that made this game even close? Looking at their schedule they took care of everyone but the 6-5 team they lost too and had a close call to a 4-7 team. Just trying to get a feel for the team. Although i 100% expect Varina to win easily.

Tuscarora is a solid team. Well coached. They have had success for several yrs. Played LC Byrd in 2014 C5 State Championship game losing 22-19. They lost to Highland Springs in the C5 final 2017. Lost to Lake Taylor in C4 State Championship in 2019. So they have been knocking on the door.

I was surprised that they lost the first game of the yr. They will be ready to play. I have Varina winning but would not be surprised if Tuscarora pulls the upset.

I might go to the Varina/Tusky game. How is parking there?
get there early
park so you can get out with ease (you may consider parking at the middle school and walking a little).
It is like most high school parking lots.
get your tickets ASAP.

Decent. My beef with Varina is they charge for “VIP Parking” in the main lot and it’s an extra $10. Still a headache to get out of. I’d park on the visitor’s side (Michael Robinson Way) and park either in the lot behind the visitor’s bleachers, on the street or like EP said by the middle school.

Seeing that VIP parking pissed me off for real. I much rather them do elderly parking instead of another cash grab.

As much as I love Varina, that’s just the way it is there. I agree with you. They have parking in the main lot and behind the gym. Should be free to ADA, veterans and elderly.

I finally saw Varina in person against Dinwiddie. I think their QB is what honestly separates them. He reminds me of Marcus Hagans back in the day for Hampton. Very good passer, super poised, doesn't really take negative plays or sacks, and can just straight up call his own number and run it for a big gain whenever he wants. Not discounting the rest of the team at all, which is abundantly talented. I think the QB's skill set makes them elite as a team. Dinwiddie played hard and is dangerous and did what they do, broke a couple of big plays and scored quick. However, I never felt that Varina was not in control or in any real jeopardy. I have not seen Tusky but I do think Varina has comfortably beaten a few very good football teams along their path. I'll take Varina by two scores. Let's go Blue Devils, bring it home for region B!

Seriously though.

If Salem plays a full JV schedule with all their Sophomore and Freshman they absolutely CRUSH mufuggas.

21, 30, 66, 78, 6, 75

Starting long snapper was a sophomore.

I would suggest you all take a look at Tusky if you haven't. I think Varina is still better but this definitely aint an easy game like I was sort of assuming.

As with every game Varina’s dline has the potential to overwhelm them and make nothing else matter. We'll just have to see how that goes. Tusky Dline has the potential to overwhelm Varina’s oline. I wasn't expecting that but they have some dudes up front. One of them is a D1 kid.

Varina is more athletic on the edges but Tusky's Boston College athlete can probably matchup with Carter so that'll be an interesting matchup.

Basically Varina 100% has to show up ready to play. Which they have all year up to this point.

V Boyz play inspired ball on Messer Road. Going to be a hell of a game but Varina’s defense is on another level and their offense has too much speed. I thought Tusky looked good last year but thought Salem intimidated them. Tusky is a very good football team and offers Varina some complex match-ups that Dinwiddie and Huguenot didn’t especially for the Varina offense.

Hey @BoKnowsSports. I plan to be at the Varina/Tusky game. If you’ll be there and would like to meet and say hello I’d love to meet up

Varina JV would love a game next year, they have two open spots for next season. #3 QB #2 CB #7 SS #10 RB all sophomores on Varsity for Varina

Will do my man! I’m not 100% sure I’ll make Saturday but I’m hopeful I can. It’ll be a very good game to attend. Varina’s stadium is the best in the area behind Hermitage as far as seating goes.

Dawson Pough is legit. They’ve been using him the same way that Varina used Ant Fisher a few years back. They have a nice offensive line and a stud RB. The 6’5 Lucas Love kid is their version of Bull Richardson and he’s forreal. Last year’s region defensive player of the year. The way the Varina offensive line has struggled with holding, gives me a lot of worries for this match up. Lucas Allen is another kid to watch. He was the region defensive player of the year this year. Tusky’s defense is very legit. May be the best Varina has seen so far.

Yea I still think Varina wins or "should" win. But watching them had me like hold up ,the boys gotta come to play for real. I think Tusky will have a don't let 6 beat us mentality and Wyche is going to have to carry the day. I had no idea about Pough. UVA and Tech letting talent leave the state still smh.

This reminds of some of those earlier 2000's matchups 804 teams had with NOVA teams. Can't come in sleeping because we think we'll just run past them.

So what’s the story on Tuscarora’s 1 loss to the 6-5 team?
Independence is the 6-5 team that beat Tuscarora. One of the loses was a Class 6 Region playoff loss to a team that also beat them in the regular season (Massaponax). Losing to Massaponax suprises me but there must have been something in the match up. The other 3 losses were to Stafford (9-2), Brook Point (5-5) and Briar Woods (9-3). Briar Woods is in a Class 6 State semi-final game this week end. So I wouldn't judge the 6-5 team by their record. Only one of their losses was to a team that didn't make the playoffs and they were all to Class 6 and Class 5 teams.

I'm picking Varina this week. This has the making of a low scoring defensive game which Varina probably isn't used to. If it turns out that way, either team can win. When you get to this point, everyone is very good and just because you could run over everyone before this point, doesn't mean you can run over this very good team that won their region. I've seen that more than once. Good luck to both teams!

Can’t compare scores y’all. Varina barely got by Herm who lost to Glen Allen and Varina beat Glen Allen 38-0. One of many examples, just gotta line it up and play ball. Varina definitely got the harder of the draw for the state semi’s but they’re playing lights out. They’ve beaten Highland Springs, Dinwiddie, and Huguenot, and have the most impressive resume remaining in the state. This Tusky team reminds me a lot of PH Ashland in 2021. Athletes, combination of size/skill and extremely physical. The only question mark I have are special teams and offensive line play for Varina. I think Varina’s offensive line can play with anybody, just gotta limit those mistakes. EJ Shaw, Jaiden Wellons, Jadon Baskerville, got faith that those guys will be ready.

Tusky’s offense is elite but I’d damn sure hate to have to gameplan around Jayden Walker, Bull Richardson, Bray Hood and D1 Carter/Myles Anderson/Tee Jay Cheatham in that secondary. I’m picking Varina’s defense every single time.

I wouldn't have guessed at the beginning of the season that Tuscarora or Sherando would make it this far. They scrimmaged each other to a 7-7 tie before both teams subbed guys in and then Sherando won 20-7. My initial read was that Tuscarora didn't look as good as some of the better Broad Run and Briar Woods teams to come out of Loudoun (when both were Class 4), but it was only a scrimmage. I wasn't at the game but I remember seeing some clips on YouTube a month or two ago. Tried to find the video earlier but the algorithm wasn't playing nice.

Managed to find these clips on Twitter though:

Tuscarora has been to 2 C5 State Championship games and 1 C4 State Championship game. So they are definitely no pushover

I was debating on whether going to the LCA/William Byrd game or the Tusky/Varina game. I chose the Varina game as I was already planning to go to Richmond on Saturday. Worked out perfectly. Looking forward to a good game!

Thought I posted it on this thread but Tusky and Stone Bridge always matches up well with 804 teams. SB has had more success but Tusky hanging with that Bedwell led Bird team with all those studs Bird had tells you all you need to know about their culture and program in Leesburg. It’s going to be another great game on Saturday.

Highland Springs can teach us Varina fans a little about overlooking those Loudoun teams. Still crazy that Stone Bridge beat that Highland Springs team during Covid year for the C5 championship on Varina’s home field.

That Springers team was probably the least explosive offense they had in past few years. They definitely had one of the best defenses in the state behind OSmith that year tho

The Noah Reimers year for Tusky--3,005 rushing yards and 47 touchdowns, you don't see a single running back carry their team like that at the large school level very often. Funny thing is they may actually have been better the following year after he graduated but they got tripped up by Stone Bridge in the semis after crushing them in the regular season.

I feel like the golden age of Loudoun football has faded, but there is still enough talent plus coaching that they can't be overlooked. Not a shock that Mike Burnett who turned Broad Run and Tuscarora into powers now has Briar Woods back in contention.

When HS played Tusky in ‘17, that game wasn’t ever close. We used our speed to get them on their heels after that we did whatever we wanted, ended up being 33-0 mid 2nd qtr. Kinda coasted the rest of the way & won 40-27

Nah they look absolutely horrible in this clip 🤣 I respect all opponents and give teenagers the benefit of the doubt. I think Varina wins comfortably but that’s why we line it up!

I would love to see a Phoebus vs Varina match up in the state late gm. The best two teams either has faced for the chip.

It's hard to say the best team they have faced considering Phoebus has played in way more Finals than Varina. I would agree that Phoebus is probably better than Broad Run a few yrs ago that Varina beat 28-21. Phoebus has a long list of good teams that they have played
