Tuscarora v Varina

He’s saying that it’ll be the best that either has faced this year.
All I was saying was that I think Salem has been the best so far, but even they weren’t at their level last year, but just played up.

Don’t know for sure but I think Varina matches their talent in a more sincere way than Salem did last year.

Salem had the factor of slowing the game down, and being the only team with an offense like that that pheobus had played all year, which kept them in the game longer. I think varina from the film I have watched actually matches Phoebus in a more traditional sense and will be the best team they played past four years.

I finally saw Varina in person against Dinwiddie. I think their QB is what honestly separates them. He reminds me of Marcus Hagans back in the day for Hampton. Very good passer, super poised, doesn't really take negative plays or sacks, and can just straight up call his own number and run it for a big gain whenever he wants. Not discounting the rest of the team at all, which is abundantly talented. I think the QB's skill set makes them elite as a team. Dinwiddie played hard and is dangerous and did what they do, broke a couple of big plays and scored quick. However, I never felt that Varina was not in control or in any real jeopardy. I have not seen Tusky but I do think Varina has comfortably beaten a few very good football teams along their path. I'll take Varina by two scores. Let's go Blue Devils, bring it home for region B!
And I'm pretty sure he's only a sophomore!

Independence is the 6-5 team that beat Tuscarora. One of the loses was a Class 6 Region playoff loss to a team that also beat them in the regular season (Massaponax). Losing to Massaponax suprises me but there must have been something in the match up. The other 3 losses were to Stafford (9-2), Brook Point (5-5) and Briar Woods (9-3). Briar Woods is in a Class 6 State semi-final game this week end. So I wouldn't judge the 6-5 team by their record. Only one of their losses was to a team that didn't make the playoffs and they were all to Class 6 and Class 5 teams.

I'm picking Varina this week. This has the making of a low scoring defensive game which Varina probably isn't used to. If it turns out that way, either team can win. When you get to this point, everyone is very good and just because you could run over everyone before this point, doesn't mean you can run over this very good team that won their region. I've seen that more than once. Good luck to both teams!
Massaponax is Class 5 and their only two wins came against Independence. I don't know much about Independence but Massaponax was pretty bad this year.

Agree - that's why I said I was surprised when Massaponax made the playoffs!

Kaleb Wyche is the name of that sophomore QB. Thought he was the Offensive Player of the Year for Region B. Plays both ways and is a shut down DB. If he was 3 inches taller, he’d be at minimum a 4 star for football and basketball.

What does the traffic typically look like on Messer Rd on game days? If I get to the stadium at about 1:00 or 1:15 would I have much trouble with traffic congestion? Also, anyone know where the high school is in relation to Scott’s Addition in Richmond? Got a buddy in the Scott’s Addition area that I’m going to visit after the game ends. Wanted to see how far Varina is from Scott’s Addition

At least 30 minutes before kickoff and you should be good as far as traffic to the school. Varina to Scott's Addition will either take you straight through the city about 25 minutes or around the city about 25 minutes also. Depends if you want city traffic or more highway to drive.

There’s 3 ways to access Varina and I believe it’s the easiest in and out of any of the schools in Henrico County; especially if you park on Michael Robinson Way.

I’d suggest leaving the game and going Route 5 (New Market Road) towards downtown. Take the Main St exit at the roundabout to and go til you get to the stop light on 14th. Turn right and take a left on Broad St and follow to Scott’s. 64 is normally a hellhole to get thru during the afternoon.

Thanks for the info @BoKnowsSports and @GoBlue2109. I think this Tusky/Varina game could be one of if not the best state semifinal games tomorrow. Looking forward to getting to catch this game. Should be two great State Final matchups next week at Liberty as well that I also will be at. Cool to see a team like Kettle Run be back in the mix in 3A. I think they are the only team from Fauquier County that has been in a state final game. Good program up there with Kettle Run in Nokesville. Nokesville is a small town. Beautiful golf course that I’ve played up there in Nokesville called Prince William Golf Course. Probably one of my second favorite golf courses I’ve played in all of Virginia behind Raspberry Falls in Leesburg

Is the game streaming anywhere?
I have been able to go to the state brackets on MaxPreps. When you find the game you're interested in it will have live stream in small letters under the teams. Click it and it will take you straight to the game.
