The 804 saw only one team win a state championship in 2019, but the Hopewell Blue Devils did it in style. They had a perfect season, going 15-0 including a convincing state championship win over Lord Botetourt.
Varina was a another top story in 2019, with coach Stu Brown leading another set of Blue Devils to a deep playoff run. The Blue Devils avenged two regular season losses to top teams by topping Manchester and Highland Springs in the Region 5B playoffs.
