Union vs. Glenvar

From Roanoke.com. It says unofficial, but this is the only set of statistics that I have seen for Union all year.
Glenvar statistics: RB Darryl Manns (253-1,521 rushing, 20 TDs); QB Zack Clifford (60-121 passing, 1,284 yards, 14 TDs; 7 rushing TDs); WR-DB Elliott Stigall (19-476 receiving, 5 TDs; 7 INTs); WR-DE Remington Stanley (16-501, 4 TDs, 31.3 per catch; 35.6 punt avg.; 15 TFLs); DL Zach Deck (7 sacks, 8 TFLs); DL Quentin Alls (10 TFLs); LB Jacob Tawney (62 solos).

Unofficial Union statistics: QB Bryce Spears (1,600 pass yards, 28 TDs, 62 percent completion rate); soph WR James Mitchell (600 receiving yards); WR Raashaun Noaks (500 receiving yards); WR Jay Gavin (400 receiving yards); RB Braxton Bishop (900 rushing yards); RB Cameron Fannon (500 rushing yards); RB Devan Summers (10 rushing TDs); LB Hunter Dickenson (95 total tackles).

Yea, I think the total for Spears is a little low. The 3 receivers listed adds up to 1500 and I know Barnett has more than 100 yards.

I think Fannon's rushing yards is a little low too.

The BHC had him at "nearly 1,500" entering the game with Graham. I totaled up some yardage the Coalfield Progress had him at with each article they had this season. I couldn't find their stats for him in the Lee High, Richlands, and Burton games. The Kingsport paper had him with 74 against Burton. Adding that total to the others the Coalfield had brought the total to just over 1400 yards.

Looks pretty even on stats. Both teams can run or pass and have good balance and many options.

I've noticed this for years. Give me 11 guys with the grit, heart, and determination of a player like Mann, and I'll take my chances against a team loaded with talent. Reminds me of this old quote I've seen used over the years: "Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."

Look at Riverheads in 1A, they don't have any players (except maybe the TE based on what the coach says) that wow you with D1 talent, size, or speed, but they play with heart, pride, determination, and grit. I've seen them be competitive and win games over the years against teams that had a size, speed, and talent advantage over them.
I thought all of Riverheads state titles came as 1A...when they were 2A, they did not fare nearly as well, or so I seem to recall.

You are correct. 7-4 in 2A playoffs and only one semi-final game which we lost to Giles. But I would bet there are some current 2A teams that would take that over a 4 year period. #RollPride

He had 165 for the Richlands game, and I'm not sure about Lee. I remember a 40 or 50 yard pass to Gavin for a TD, but that's all I recall.

Did you find stats for Crockett?? I never saw anything whatsoever for that game.

The Coalfield had him at 6-13 for 79 yards against Crockett.
