UPSET: Chancellor 44, Courtland 40 FINAL

Big upset in the Battlefield District tonight, as Chancellor (6-13, 3-7) rallied from a 23-14 halftime deficit to topple visiting Courtland 44-40.

Trailing 41-40 with seven seconds left in the game, Courtland was fouled and was set to inbound the ball underneath the basket. Courtland Head Coach Eric Davis was then whistled for a technical foul, presumably for arguing that the prior call should’ve been a shooting foul, and the Chargers went to the line and closed it out.

Courtland (11-8, 5-4) plays host to Caroline tomorrow.

From the FLS snippet on how the game ended:

“Courtland recieved an unsportsmanlike technical foul in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter to assist in Chancellor’s 7-0 run that helped the Chargers prevail in Battlefield District action after trailing 40-37.”

Not sure who the tech was on, though folks in attendance said they believed it was on Courtland Coach Davis.

After tonight’s games it should pretty much set the top four with that loss

I know that Courtland would have to lose its three remaining games and KG would need to win all three of its games in order for those two teams to flip spots and have KG make the district tourney instead of the Cougars. Any variation from that scenario that would leave both teams at 6-6 in league play would still result in Courtland getting in based on preseason tiebreaker.
