Over on the Class 6 Thread, I have posted an upset poll according to CalPrep.com game projections. It has been fun so, why not do this here? As the computer cannot understand the intangibles, we all know there are other issues to debate for these games. So, being a bit of a homer that we all have in our opinions, I will pick Kings Fork over Varina. Their Coach was an assistant @ KF when they beat Smith and then come over as assistant when Coach Scott became Tiger's Head Coach. SO, he is bringing over a bit of Ocean Lakes and Smith for his knowledge base. Don't let the KF loss to Smith shade your opinion too much. Remember, they also beat a Western Branch that made it to the Regional Final in Class 6 by beating Manchester!! AND as we all know, all the teams are very good to have won their regions!

I must admit I assumed Kings Fork wasn’t that strong due to the void left in Region A after the Lake Taylor/Lafayette departures. I have to check out their Regional Final on NfHS Network. Varina is very good beating Highland Springs, King George and Patrick Henry.

I think they are all pretty even. I had 3 of the four in my preseason picks. Only missing Kings Fork. So if they win I would consider it an upset.

I know I am biased in that regard. Is KF an adequate Lake Taylor replacement? Not until they win a few State Titles. BUT, I will support our 757 area team AND our SouthEastern District opponent. I did get to see KF vs Western Branch.

- they kept up with WB athletes the whole game, harassed their QB to were he completed very few passes,
- their offense was able to take advantage of the short fields provided by the D and a good kicking game.
- they have a dual threat QB that can extend plays & find an open receiver OR get down the field pretty will.
- KF has always had some pretty good RB's and they have another one that I think is just a Sophomore.

Yea, I don't want any kind of a narrative that Broad Run is some huge underdog and beating Salem is some huge upset. You're not in the semis by chance, only quality teams make it this far.

Broad Run winning would definitely not be an upset. They have a lot of good players. I've seen them a couple of times this year and they never seem to reach the level of play their capable of (penalties, turnovers, etc...). Loudoun County was a real tough team this year with a strong running attack and a tenacious defense. They're like a poor man's Salem and lost to BR 24-19 in the playoffs. Against Tuscarora this past week BR looked on. If BR plays the same way this week I feel they have a good chance to beat Salem (Though I predict a Salem win). If Salem has a super fast, sure tackler I'd have him key on Griffis. Griffis tends to get the ball in any critical situation. You think you have him, then the next thing you know he escapes for a 12 yard run. Man I wish Broad Run had the higher power points! I really wanted to see this game. I guess I'll have to settle for the State Championship atmosphere of Stone Bridge vs Highland Springs.

I think all the teams are pretty even. Hoping Varina wins it all just because the East End is where I called home for a few years but really just hoping anyone besides Salem wins. Salem has a great program and I have a lot of respect for their players and coaches but I like a little parody in sports.

I would love to see SB-HSHS myself! I would make the drive up if I didn't have a kid playing in Lynchburg on Saturday.
