For selfish reasons I am hoping for a Highland Springs win. Varina is playing well on both sides of the ball and appear to be extremely focused. The Springers defense is playing well, but the offense is bland and predictable. You never know what is going to happen in this rivalry. Varina has a ton of motivation (#1 seed) to play for and HSHS just seems lack any sense of urgency. This will be a typical, hard hitting, low scoring, battle for east end bragging rights. Give me Varina in a close one.

It’ll be an ugly game. Varina is the better team by a mile. I remember telling people last year that Varina was better overall, but Varina gave the Springers the game. Coaching will keep it close. LJ will have the Airport Boyz ready. I picked Varina to come out of 4B. Think they take care of business at home.

I thought Varina finally closed the talent gap last year. And this year they are the more talented team. Everything point towards Varina winning this game BUT this will be the best team Varina has played all year while until proven different, this will be the 3rd best team HSHS has played.

Both teams struggled against an athletic Hermitage team so this game will probably be low scoring and ugly.

Which team avoids the back breaking turnover? And which teams special teams will be better?

Varina 14-13.

Honestly, unless they’ve gotten ALOT better I’d be surprised if highland springs scored 2 TDs

I think the biggest difference in this Varina team and last year’s (who had significantly more talent) is leadership. Bray Hood, Bull Richardson, Myles Anderson, Kaleb Wyche., All 3.5 or higher GPA kids and are excellent kids and leaders. They were all young last year but this Varina ream goes as they go. I don’t think this game will be that close as Wyche to D1 Carter/Myles Anderson will be too much compared to what HS has on offense. It took Varina literally handing them the game last for Springs to win, won’t happen this year. Much respect to LJ and his team, but the V owns the East End.

Matoaca has the weapons and are a legit team. I will talk about this more next week, but having a long list of superstars doesn't make you an elite team.
What’s the run down if Varina beats HS and Dinwiddie beats Mataoca? Who gets #1?

I am thinking that Dinwiddie is Mataoca’s Super Bowl.. I’m also thinking Midlo gives Huguenot all they want. I know it’s changing but I ultimately see it being: 1. Varina 2. Dinwiddie 3. Huguenot 4. KG

I would like to believe that Midlo can give Huguenot a game, but I find that hard to comprehend.
I’m making a sacrifice to the football Gods for Midlo and Highland Springs to both find victory this week. It is trick or treat season, you know!

Confusion by the Varina offense leads to a Springer interception and 30 yard return. Springer ball at the Varina 5.

Big 40 yard run by HSHS. But Varina defense holds strong. Springers can't throw the ball gets a long field goal. 6-6 mid 2nd.

Springers were driving and looked ready to score but Varina forces a huge fumble. 2 min left in the half.

Varina’s offense is worlds better than last year. Kicking is rough with Huguenot and Varina but you gotta stop them on the 2pt attempt.

Nelson Lane 60 yard TD. Huge play from the springers. 14-13 Varina early 11 minutes 3rd quarter.

Varina is clearly the more talented team from top to bottom. Springers has some guys though. Where’s Eric Byrd?

I’ve watch this entire game a maybe I’ve overrated Varina or maybe HS has got alot better from not getting a first down Weeks 2-3……. I’m honestly flabbergasted at the score

Rivalry game brother. There’s 22 athletes on the field every play. You feel me?
