Just read some news about meeting held about realignment starting in the 2019-20 year.
Most interesting was that the committee voted in favor 17-7 to have Surry, Franklin, and Sussex join Riverheads in Region 1B. WOW!
Fort will join Shenandoah and East Rock will go to Bull Run.
Wilson will move to Class 3.

Not in stone yet as things can be appealed.

I hope it goes through , i get to meet some Augusta County faithful . That would be a brutal division , physical and feature arguably 3 great coaches.

Wow! That sure is a lot to absorb! I am most surprised at the East Rock move, although it had been rumored. Sounds like more travel for them, considering that the Bull Run stretches all the way to Fairfax, but I guess they know what they are getting into. I would have assumed that at some point, their change would have been to move up to the Valley, assuming that their enrollment is on the way up.

I understand Waynesboro's position, although it will never seem normal to have Lee (or whatever name it will have in the future) and the Giants in different districts. They are natural rivals.

But the biggest adjustment will be for the Shenandoah to lose four of its teams and drop from a nine-team league to only six teams. If you do the math, that will mean the AD's will have to scramble around to find 5 non-district football games and as many as 12 non-district basketball games.

I am sure each school's fans will have their own ideas as to who they would like to see their team play, so for my school, Riverheads, I would hope that they would keep it as local and traditional as possible.

For example, I would suggest bringing back the Waynesboro series, re-establishing the Parry McCluer rivalry, perhaps renewing acquaintances with James River and/or Covington, and last but not least, I have never understood why the Gladiators don't play Rockbridge, considering it is only 25 miles down the road.

On the other hand, I will see nothing to be gained by continuing to play Bath or Nelson. RHS does travel extremely well so if they do have to keep Central Woodstock on the schedule, or experiment as we have done before (Clarke County, Radford, William Monroe) we will be there!

I understand the need to bring some teams from 1-A into 1-B, but that will create some traveling nightmares. I do hope that will lead to 1-B having an eight-team football playoff, thereby doing away with the first-round bye. Riverheads has received it several times, even though we hated the idea, and other schools complained, thinking it gave us an unfair advantage. So I will be glad to see that nipped in the bud if it happens.

Sussex & Surry moving to 1B as a pair makes a bit of sense based on geography (sort of) & the need to balance regions. Franklin is going to be very reluctant, I imagine.

I would have to look at a map and study it pretty hard to believe that Franklin would be one of the three closest 1-A schools to the 1-B area.

Franklin is on Va. / Nc border they should swap Franklin for Lunenburg Central.

It seems to me it was proposed to keep them with long-time rivals Surry & Sussex. But yeah, Charles City is closer (for Riverheads at least).

It would be a whole heck of a lot better than 0-10 teams making the playoffs.

See the complete chart that someone posted in the 2-A thread. It is very helpful. If things do stay the way they are outlined, if my math is correct, there would only be eight football-playing schools in Region 1-B. Good news is that would allow for an eight-team playoff, which as I mentioned before would probably be preferred by everyone. Bad news is that if everybody qualified every year, there would never be any suspense as to who makes it and there would likely be some mismatches.

But here is some great news, and correct me if I am wrong........but haven't seven of those eight football-playing schools won the state title before? So there would be some rich tradition competing in that region.

........

New Bull Run will be

Clarke
Madison
Rapp Co
Strasburg
Luray
Page
Stonewall -> also moving to 2B
East Rock

So ER to Clarke is 1:36, their longest trip. Which is longer than any they had in Shenandoah, but not as bad as going to Fairfax
Bull Run makes sense to me.

George Mason and Central Woodstock (both go up to Region 3B) is in a 15 member Northwestern District, which I don't even know how that works. (Maybe they'll have the Atlantic and Coastal Divisions, ha)

Shenandoah makes sense to me. Sure, having teams from 3A to 1A raises an eye brow, but RHS would be the odd man out there and I much rather see them playing 3A teams then messing around in the Pioneer. Gap and RHS are 40 kids and a fence apart. I woudn't accept a plan where the play in the a different district.

Other Notes (Maybe already covered, but I am re-hashing them)
RE Lee is largest 2A, so in 4 years the possibility of them moving back up to 3A is possible
Stuarts Draft is 30 kids away from 3A (Like ER)
Riverheads is 30 kids away from 2A, so again, maybe in 4 years they move above the line. (Like the were 2013 & 2014)
Wilson is in 3A, and I don't see how they will fall back down in 4 years with the amount of growth Fishersville has had, and continues to have.

I'm good with the plan for the next 4 years. I think it would be cool for Augusta County area to have all the teams in one district, so that means getting Waynesboro in. It would be cool to see ER (30 kids from 3A) and/or the new Harrisonburg Part II High give the Valley District what they need to let Waynesboro leave in 4 years.

Yeah im aware of that just sayinh bases on Franklins travel distance

What are you saying then?
You say Central Lune should be in; they already are
You say they should swap with Franklin; but know they are trying to ADD teams
Is this a "would" vs "wouldn't" kind of thing?

You and everyone else does know not every regional playoff game won't be vs Riverheads right? Like games will exist without Riverheads involvement. There will be plenty of closer games than the two furthest schools playing.

(I also find it funny, not one RHS person has complained about the travel distance with these changes. They've had RHS in the east, in the west, playing eastern shore teams, playing far western teams near Tennessee. The fans just get in the car an go)

OK anything you say man Not with the drama , lol this isnt about Riverheads here we go .

I just hope they fill in the ten game schedule with the teams that are running from Riverheads ! That team from BV and JR along with the chickens from Wboro

If they're planning to put Franklin the 1B, will they also be moving Windsor in to 1B as well? I think they're still D1, right?
