Let's take a look at the teams and their year to date:

TJ - Having their best season in decades. Offense is rolling, Defense is not great, but they have enough weapons to score points. RB and QB are the real deal. They seem to be playing with confidence and want a shootout type game. This week vs. William Campbell will be a test. A loss will hurt as William Campbell is only a 1A school. Right now, the favorite to come out of the region.

Spotsy - started out hot with some lesser opponents, but that is what they need to build from. Their offense is can be very tricky and they have improved on defense. Will be a tough out in this region. Coach Jack is building something. JV team is really good, so they will be a mainstay

JM - Nowhere near the JM of old, but they have played a tough schedule and have had some glimpses of powerful JM. Really struggles with consistency. Offense/QB play has been issue for couple of years, now defense does not have same talent as last few years. If they can put it together, they can win region, but they are so up and down. Lack of typical JM toughness.

Warren - new head coach, solid year for the Cats. Tough, physical brand of football. new district with all 3As helps them get wins and confidence. Can make it to the region final, need good matchups. Played Kettle Run tough, so they can play with anyone in region.

Skyline - Can put up points and that should always be noted. Once again, will need some good matchups to advance. Never really seem to pull away from anyone and has lost against every good/solid team they have played.

Culpeper - well coached team that was hitting their stride until lost to Brentsville. Reinvented themselves after QB went down. Offense is limited, but they know who they are and keep things close. Defense is playing well and they have a couple of athletes who can make plays in the pass game. A team to watch if they can get some more balance offensively.

Armstrong - seems to be moving in the right direction. Still not strong, but they always have athletes who can make some plays. Playing bigger Richmond area schools prepares them for 3A playoffs.

Brentsville - tough kids. New coach, but kids have bought in. They lost a lot, so the talent is definitely not there, but as you can see, they've been in every game the past few weeks and know what they do and who they are. kept it close with Kettle Run. Will be a tricky 1st round matchup.

Not agreeing or disagreeing....why do you believe Culpeper is well coached?

Skyline-Culpeper. Just compared to other teams, they made adjustments on the fly to what was working for them and what was not, both offensively and defensively. I have seen other teams just be stubborn and keep doing the same thing, allowing our team to stay in the game, despite the difference in Jimmys and Joes. I don't know enough about football to go into much more detail.

X's and O's aside -- they revamped their offense especially to win games. EV has the majority of the talent in the county, but I think good coaching is evident when you can re-tool and play a certain way to fit the personnel.

To say EV has the majority of the talent is a bad excuse in my eyes. Culpeper has more than enough talent to be winners, especially at the 3A level in this region. It just seems to me that the conditioning program between the 2 schools is night and day, which then gives the appearance that the talent level is skewed. Just like the boys basketball program was woeful at EV for many years until good coaching was infused. Good players were always there. I'm not sure if the Culpeper football coaches are good/bad x's and o's guys. I just think the off-season program is lacking, and that's what makes a huge difference.

Well, you can speak to that -- I can't. I appreciate your comments on it.

So when Warren and Skyline face each other in last game......its going to have seeding implications? Nice!!!!

A lot depends on other games, including the ones this week. But unless some strange things happen, Skyline could win out and get the 4 seed(and home playoff game) or likely fall to 6 even if it only loses one game.

I would say the 8 teams have been decided. Wythe, Man Park or W. Monroe aren't favored and likely won't crack the top 8. John Marshall can if they upset JR Tucker. Those 5A points are valuable.

If TJ wins at William Campbell, they are a lock at 1. The Race for 2-4 is between Spotsy, JM, and Warren. Skyline can get in there as well, but will take 2 wins probably. Spotsy and JM will get 4A boosts from here on out, so that might keep them 2/3. if Warren wins out, they can jump both though.

Interesting last couple of weeks...weak region, but should be competitive.

BDHS last two games are Skyline and MP...If they win out it will make the playoff rankings interesting.

I would say Brentsville, Skyline, Warren and Culpeper are pretty much all even and can beat each other. I think the difference is Skyline and Warren picked up a couple of early wins, so that may give them enough cushion to stay ahead of the pack, but it's definitely about who's playing best going into the tournament.

The TJ vs WC game should be one to watch. Although WC is just a 1A school, they are playing some of the best ball in years for them. Their playoff appearance was short last year, they have amped it up this year. Yes TJ, with their QB and RB have the weapons to break it open fast and it could be a true back and forth game. I see coaches playing the clock just as much as the do the other team. A LOT of eyes on this game tonight as it will have implications on both Region A & B seedings!

Unofficial as of today (after the Handley game)

Thomas Jefferson (6-3) 25.1
Warren County (5-4) 20.8
James Monroe (3-6) 20.2
Spotsylvania (4-5) 20
Culpeper (3-6) 19.1
Brentsville (3-6) 18.7
Skyline (4-5) 18.3
Armstrong (2-7) 17

TJ is locked in at #1.
Warren, with a win over Skyline is locked at 2
Armstrong is locked at #8.

Richmond football will get to see TJ vs. Armstrong Pt. 2 in a playoff setting. (Most likely) -- has to be historic.

Congrats to TJ. But this has to be the worst region in history. Whoever wins this(and I think it will be TJ easily) will get throttled by region A.
