Pretty impressive scrimmage tonight as Chancellors first team beat War Hill 21 to 0! War Hill scored a TD at the end of the scrimmage as both teams reserves picked off the freshman back up QB and returned it about 80 yards for their only score of the night!
the first half was a controlled scrimmage with both teams running 12 plays no chains or downs in play. the chargers lead by QB Jason Brown's arm and legs! after Warhill was unable to move the ball in 12 plays Brown and his receivers Jenkins and Riverbend transfer CJ Washington made nice catches and a new good looking JR receiver Brandon Johnson caught a beautiful 50 yrd TD pass for their first score. Warhill once again could not move the ball on the chargers defense and once again the arm and legs of Brown with Jenkins making a beautiful 40 yrd pass down to the 5 and after 2 tries from the 5 Brown scrambled to the end zone Chancellor 14 to 0 and the half ended!
The second half was cut a little short for some reason as both first teams had the ball once for the first and second teams. this half was played game like with downs counted and the chains being held. once again mostly on Browns arm and Jenkins receiving Brown hit Jenkins on a 65 yrd TD pass making it first team 21 to 0 chargers! Once again Warhill was unable to move the ball as the chargers defense was impressive lead by DE Gross Matos who was unstoppable living in the Warhill backfield and sacking the QB twice. Matos is a stud DE and look for his name in the newspaper as a regular and possible defensive player of the year! As both teams emptied their benches and Warhill picked off a pass from back up QB and returned it about 80 yards for their only score. scrimmage over!
now before we starting crowning Chancellor champs lets put things in perspective! Warhill only won 3 games last year and I don't know how many players they had from last years team but they was far from the 1963 Green bay Packers! They had no where the size of the chargers but looked like some tough kids. don't get me wrong the Chargers are a good football team with a good spread offense with three or 4 great receivers and for sure the best QB in the district Jason Brown who might be the best in the area even with those good Stafford county Qb's ! Remember this was the first scrimmage but I didn't see a lot of speed in the charger backfield. the O line was big and gave Brown ample passing time but the backs on the first team showed little speed! That may be their only downfall but as much as they passed tonight I would say 90% passing they may only run to keep defenses honest and want to pass most the time! In the coming weeks we shall see if their defense is as good as it looked tonight and if so this will be the team to beat in the dist. and playoffs this year. They have a tough schedule and lets hope the injury factor will not come in to play as they didn't look like they had a lot of depth but only time will tell!

Chancellor at 90% pass? Interesting. Maybe just practice and having Jason Brown but it's difficult for me to envision a Bob Oliver team that's not run first. And Matos is already all over the recruiting boards with offers. He has the whole nine yards of what recruiters look for in a DE. I've got them at the top of the list in the District too.

Glad you're better health wise. We've butted heads frequently in the past but I would have missed your old wrinkly redneck ass on the board.

Well ..... except many of the 2s were on the field and took more snaps than the 1s to include the QB. By the way, keep an eye on him! I don't believe anywhere close to 90% pass but I'll see. Remember, scrimmage 1 and its purpose is to learn and I bet the coaches did just that. Yetur Matos committed to Penn State back in Jan/Feb and has 20+ offers.

over the last couple years Oliver is more a adviser looking over the whole team letting the coaches coach and other than advising the team he lets the D coordinator and O coordinator more or less do their thing. i'm like you that's not a Oliver like team but the looks of that QB and the bevy of 4 great receivers I would not be surprised if they pass mostly. HS football has changed over the years as more and more teams have gone to the spread as that's what most players like to do! Those three yards and a cover of dust days are history but their are still some that run the wing T or single wing but you have to have the horses on the line and studs in the backfield to be successful! Chancellor will be interesting this year and I look for them to go far!

I will be interested in seeing our scrimmage with Chancellor on Thursday.

Hey Skynard,

I agree with your comments. But for clarity, Chancellor dropped the Flex Bone at the end of either 2009 or 2010 and introduced a Spread based, or what I call a Spread Option based offense. They've changed things a little a time or two to match abilities or intentions. I can go back and snag the words off a FLS interview done that year, but the decision to do that came from Coach O. Like you pointed out, you kind of need horses with a running based offense. He recognized what he had, what was coming and made a strategic decision. Having watched him for 16, about to be 17 seasons, I'll say he is as engaged today as I have ever seen him. That being said, he lets the DC and OC do their jobs ... and he does the head coach job. I'll echo your words as I see this first hand ... the staff and the players love this style of football! Don't count out the Charger running backs and don't count on mostly passes. I would be asking; "What keeps the defense off balance and what do they give up." Look for the offense to act accordingly.

BTW, saw you at the scrimmage last week. Next time, I'll introduce myself. Like to hear positive things about your Alma Mater.

Lafayette,

Things work out just right, I'll be headed down. This should be a good scrimmage. The Rams always have a competitive squad on the field.

That state champions last year in 4A could be considered a three yard team cover of dust team, they love to hammer the run. But you are correct, have to build your team around what you have.

Yes and the State Champs from last year had the horses on the line and the studs in the backfield too!

Actually think it was 53 yards not 43 ;)
I checked and your number is correct. Thx.

But trying not to single out any one team, LT would not even have been in the Championship game the year before if Monacan had realized the Lake Taylor blocked FG attempt that should have ended the game was still a live ball. I don't think anyone realized it but one guy took a chance while the whole Monacan squad ran off the field knowing it was over. It wasn't.

My point was that breaks and a little luck are usually the difference in Championship runs. It's the program that consistently gets you the opportunity to try.
