Awesome effort by the red devils against a superior team in West Point.
The Pointers and pin-point passers .very quick .very aggressive .but not dirty .
They are skillful in their ball handling and they are pretty solid across the entire field. Not a single weak link.
This is the team I saw tonight . InundI under they played poorly agaoaga Middlsex in the loss and I'm sure they will enter next week's game with something to prove .
As far as Lancaster, the boys have nothing to be ashamed of .they left it all on the field .their energy in the second half was the key to keeping WP off the board in the second half .(2-0 at halftime)
A few key players for Lancaster
Kudos to - Evan Steensma who scored for the devils and played a great all around game .
And kudos to - Lancaster keeper Nathan Spiers who was incredible tonight .HE is the main reason the score was so close. His impressive save after save tonight proves his deserving of the 1st team NND , which he didn't get . (Can you say robbed) .he did get 2nd team, but there is clearly not a better keeper in the NND than Spiers
Perhaps the region .
Congrats to Steensma, Sheridan Ford, and Spiers for making it a memorable 4 years. These seniors have played together for 4 years at LHS and in Y soccer since they were tots .hate to see it end

Good luck to WP on Tuesday night. You guys are indeed talented!!!!

Both NND teams with tough away losses indeed.

Yes, Lancaster Keeper Spiers is excellent there is no doubt. He averaged over 20 saves against Northumberland in each of our three games.

What a shame that of the top 6 boys soccer teams in Region A - Rappahannock, Lancaster, Northumberland, Middlesex, West Point, and Northampton) only two will makes States.

As someone who has been involved in Group A, now 1A sports, (soccer and football are my favorites), for nearly 20 years - I can say without any doubt, that those Region A six teams are all in the TOP 7 (certainly the top 8) teams in the state.

I would put the West's Galax at #1. Then Rappahannock as #2.
Then the rest of Region A's top 6 in no particular order.

Oh well, it is what it is. I hope that Region A can defeat finally Galax.

My advice to the teams that go to states at Radford, make sure the VHSL has some refs from the Richmond area.

Thankfully, we don't have Radford playing at Radford in the states every single year anymore.

Good luck Region A.

Lancaster’s GK is great. I may be a bit Bias, but W&Ls GK is also the real deal. Kids a stud.

NND was blessed with 4 great keepers this year - its challenging for most people to see past their own team's strengths.

Rapp's keeper Josh Stanely was named NND goalie of the year. He has 7 shutouts. However, his team is really powerful and skilled so most outsiders do not see that he is a really good goalie. Let's see if he proves himself the rest of the way against teams like Northampton,WP or Middlesex, and Galax.

Northumberland's Sophomore Joe Schindler had 8 shutouts and 3 other games allowed only one goal (two teams on schedule would not play NHS) this year alone. Joe also had a strong Defense and his team had more possession and shots most games.

In the four years before Joe started last year as a Freshman (made 196 saves), Northumberland only won 2 games - that 2 wins out 67 games (zero shutouts in all that time).

Lancaster's Nathan Spiers - he is outstanding. He kept his team (with Henry Smith) in every game this season with many saves except for the Rapp games.

W&L's Keeper Dayton Combs also was superb. Made some incredible saves against us. His team was struggling around him and he excelled. Combs is also an underclassmen and will led the Eagles in the years to come.
