I'll start a new thread as I bogged the last one down in rhetoric.

Giles 2-1 Radford: After beating Galax, I had to check out this game. Giles is a great squad. State caliber for 1A...still not sure on 2A. The score makes it sound much closer than it really was. Possession was around 75-25 Giles. Radford played with two camping and firing, but conceded way to much space on the wings and possession. They scored off a dubious penalty. Then the best moment was a score less than a minute later from Giles. The goal was solid, but run of the mill. However it was assisted and scored by a pair of freshman.

Galax 10-0 Rural Retreat: No great shock there. I hope this weak rest of season doesn't come back to bite Galax later on.

I was incidental contact with the arm at the edge of the box. Two identical plays had been allowed, one for each side, to that point. None of it seemed intentional. It was a well officiated game aside from that moment though. Radford fans are a bit ridiculous though...won't sit on their side again.

Some games last night:
GW 14-0 Rural Retreat: May have kept the starters in a little too long here to be congenial. I know their leading scorer has a goal in the second half, and they were up by 8 at half time. I'm not saying kids shouldn't score, but we should also remember that the ultimate goal is for kids to play, enjoy, and Strive to be better as a team. A demoralizing defeat can turn some away from the game. Coaches are generally very good at getting that.
Auburn played Parry McClure, but I can't find a score. The eagles should take that one for sure.
Galax and GW face off the 28.
Radford looks to have cleared the week and will face Floyd Monday. A long time to think of that loss Monday night.

Auburn beat McCluer 4-2. Won 2-1 Monday against Altavista. Played a lot of subs with Floyd coming up tonight. (3 games in 3 days)

Since AD's became convinced the soccer destroys fields at a rapid pace, and should not be allowed anywhere near a wet surface that may later be used to football...

For the same reason that a lot of teams cannot even practice on the game fields, and also have no where to practice... Football.

Marion Senior is in one of the worst situations. They finally have a decent field, (still very short though), but for years were forced to play on the front lawn of the tech center...this field may have been 35 wide with bleachers set on the actual touch line. Fortunately most schools around here have come to the realization that if they do not provide a safe place for practice, a lawsuit would be on the way. (Lots of lawyers kids play soccer) It doesn't solve the game problem though. The only place that really takes a beating is the front of goal by the keeper...and let's face it...some of these schools that gripe don't spend a lot of time in the endzones come fall.

Yeah, I have heard the Narrows began their season on the front lawn of the school. That area isn't even large enough for small sided games. They have been shifted around to wherever there is an open space and is somewhat level.

Big Tie last night: Galax 2-2 George Wythe. I'll be honest; I didn't think the Maroons had it in 'em. But one thing I will say for sure now: Galax is a great team...at home. On the road they play to the level of competition. See results v. Giles, Graham, Radford, and GW for proof.
Grayson 4-1 Fort Chiswell: Really thought Fort would take this one. Hope they are ready for that move to 2A soccer. Redistricting is saying so anyway...

Never could find a score for that Auburn v. Floyd match from last week. I know Floyd and Radford face off today and Auburn and Giles are slated to play. I'd say a good 60% chance these don't happen with weather on the forecast.

OH. I had seen that it was moved to Friday on Roanoke's site. Is there a new date? Any word on today's match being postponed? May ride to Riner for it and pick up some buffalo on the way home

Made it down. Kind of a tepid outing for Auburn. I had high hopes after an OK showing at Giles. At one point ten minutes passed before Auburn could even get a sub in and in that ten they may have touched the ball twice. They had one decent moment to score, but that came when Giles was already up 3-0 so Giles had spread out thin to go for one more (which they got). Giles is far from perfect...very far. However, tonight it was a question of one team wanting to play, and another team just chasing after them then sending longballs. Buffalo Burger was a great success though, and I love that school they have built in Riner. Final 4-0 Giles...called with about 20 minutes left due to thunder.
