A blocked extra point was the difference in a game that was fairly even but saw Westfield win the turnover battle and get an important win.

WF took the opening KO to near midfield and advanced to the CH 19 yard line where they faced a 4th and two. The handoff went to WF's Yao Kouame and he took it up the middle for a 19 yard TD run to put WF on top, 7-0 (Mattfeld XP) with 8:04 to play in the first quarter. CH's Whitlow took the KO and had a great return to the WF 28 yard line, but then Whitlow subsequently fumbled the ball and WF's Anderson recovered on the WF 21 yard line. WF managed one first down but then had to punt from their own 39 yard line to give CH the ball on the CH 18 yard line. CH advanced the ball to the WF 35 yard line where they faced a 4th and 2, but CH's Griese got 4 yards to get a new set of downs. Several plays later CH faced another 4th down, this time 4th and 2 at the WF 9 yard line, and Griese (might be the wrong player on this play) got just enough to give CH first and goal at the WF 7 yard line. However, CH's next three plays were a one yard run, a holding penalty on a run, and an INC pass and now they faced 4th and goal at the WF 19 yard line. They elected to attempt a 36 yard FG but the snap was low and the holder was tackled at the WF 33 yard line to turn the ball over on downs. WF then went three and out on this possession to give the ball back to CH on the CH 31 yard line. CH was unable to move the ball and punted the the ball back to WF, who took over on the WF 39 yard line. On this possession WF would go on a 61 yard drive and score on a 2 yard St Germain run to extend the lead to 14-0 (Mattfeld XP) with 2:46 remaining in the first half. CH then got another great KOR from Whitlow and were threatening to score on the WF 30 yard line with a little over two and a half minutes to play in the half. CH ran three plays and then failed to convert a 4th and 7 at the WF 27 yard line, so WF took over with about 20 seconds left in the half. On the first snap, WF's Nelson fumbled the ball and CH's Gobaira scooped the ball up and returned it 30 yards for a score to pull CH within 14-7 (Maurer XP) just seconds before halftime. The play was a huge momentum swing and CH, who would receive the second half KO, went into the locker room fired up.

CH got the 2nd half KO and started their drive at their own 28 yard line. They advanced to the WF 46 yard line where they faced a 4th down, but a short run and a penalty on the 4th down play resulted in WF taking over on their own 40 yard line. WF went three and out, giving CH the ball back on the CH 31 yard line, but WF's Keys soon intercepted Griese at the CH 47 yard line and returned the ball to the CH 42 yard line to kill the drive. WF reached the CH 26 yard line where they would face 4th and 12, but the pass was INC to give CH the ball. CH then put together a strong 74 yard drive and scored when Whitlow went around the right side to pull within 14-13 with 8:25 remaining in the game. On Maurer's XP attempt, WF's Keys broke through to block the XP and WF held a one point lead. WF then needed a long drive to eat up clock, and managed to take over 6 minutes off the clock before stalling and punting the ball back to CH on the CH 17 yard line with 2:02 to play. CH began to move down field with a 20+ yard pass over the middle and several Griese runs, including a successful 4 yard run on 4th and 1 at the WF 49 yard line. However, on a pass to the sideline Griese was intercepted for a second time, this time by WF's George, and WF was able to run out the clock.

Nice write up... I'd just like to add that it was a good call by the Westfield coaches to stack the line to block the X-point, and it was a great effort by the young Bulldogs to execute flawlessly... I've seen many block attempts resulting in "roughing the kicker", or some other fluke... Good luck in the playoffs.
