Battlefield received the ball first and started on their 47 yard line. They managed to drive to the Westfield 17 yard line where, faced with 4th and 2, the runner was dropped for a 4 yard loss. WF quickly went three and out, but got a great punt that pushed BF all the way back to their own 13 yard line. After advancing only to the BF 25 yard line, BF punted and gave WF the ball on the WF 44 yard line. End of the first quarter with a scoreless game and neither team able to do much offensively. WF ended up punting to start the second quarter on this drive, and BF started their drive deep in their own territory again at their own 13 yard line. After a big loss to push BF back to their own 3 yard line they eventually had to punt from their own end zone. WF's Morin came off the end of the line to block the punt, taking it right out of the air in the end zone and getting the game's first score at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter, 7-0 WF (Hildrup XP). BF went three and out on their next possession, then WF started their drive at their own 43 yard line. After driving into BF territory, WF's Kim was intercepted by BF's Setness and BF took over on their own 37 yard line. This time BF put together a nice drive to reach the WF 19 yard line, where WF's Morin struck again, this time intercepting BF's Walker in the end zone and returning the ball to the WF 25 yard line with just seconds left in the half. The half then ended with WF up 7-0.

WF received the ball to start the second half and began the drive on their 28 yard line. On the third play of the drive Kim hit Kiley for a 73 yard passing TD and WF extended the lead to 14-0 (Hildrup XP) with 10:32 remaining in the third quarter. On the ensuing KO, the BF player muffed a short pop up kick and WF's Aikines recovered giving WF another chance immediately, but they failed to move the ball and punted. BF returned the favor and went three and out, giving WF the ball on their own 28 yard line. WF managed to move into the BF red zone, then after losing a few yards faced a 4th and 14 at the BF 21 yard line but turned the ball back over to BF when the pass was incomplete. BF was unable to move the ball again, punting after just three plays, but a shanked punt gave WF the ball on the BF 38 yard line. On the next play WF's Asante went 38 yards for a TD and the lead was now 21-0 (Hildrup XP) with 2:16 to play in the third quarter. BF's next drive started on their 32 yard line and they again moved the ball into WF territory, reaching the WF 10 yard line. As BF's Walker dropped back to pass to a receiver along the home sideline, WF's Morin struck again. Morin read the play well, jumped the route, and went 92 yards untouched for a pick six to extend WF's lead to 28-0 (Hildrup XP) with 10:54 remaining in the game. BF 's next drive went 56 yards, capped by a 23 yard passing TD from Walker to King to cut WF's lead to 28-7 (Feehan XP) with 9:28 to play. After another WF three and out, BF put together a 95 yard drive, this time capped by a 5 yard TD pass from Walker to Coll with 22 seconds left to cut the score to 28-14 (Feehan XP).

Nice write up as always. Don't know if you had an old roster but Battlefield's QB is #15 Graham Walker. K is #14 Ryan Feehan.

I got one from MaxPreps and I know it was bad. I will edit the write up-the kids deserve the credit and I am sorry I got it wrong. BF's website didn't have any roster that I could find either.

This game had some curious officiating at times. Battlefield's big loss of yardage just prior to the blocked punt was partly a result of strange non-whistle. It was roughly 2nd and 10 from the 12 and Battlefield's RB was stood up at the line of scrimmage and then 3 or 4 Westfield defenders gang-tackled/pushed him back a full 7 yards. 99.9% of the time the whistle is blown in those situations and the ball is spotted where forward progress is stopped.

For some reason the officials chose not to blow the whistle BUT the Westfield defenders let the RB go - no doubt assuming the whistle was or was just about to be blown (bad assumption). Westfield had good sideline pursuit and still dropped him for a big loss - but he could have broken off a big gainer.

After the play the officials took a lengthy time-out and appeared to be arguing among themselves over whether they should have blown the play dead. The answer would be yes.

I don't know what the officials were talking about, but it was an injury time out. The RB was laying on the BF sideline being attended to during that time.

I and several friends had the same discussion. The BF RB on that play, #5, was also injured and never got back into the game. When the whistle did not blow and the WF defenders let up, he tried to make a play and cut back, only to be immediately met with a crushing hit from a WF defender. I believe he injured his shoulder. I agree the play should have been whistled dead when forward progress was stopped and he was driven back. The lack of a whistle ended up contributing to his injury. The time out was for his injury-he jogged off the field and collapsed on the sideline where the trainers took a look at him, resulting in the long time out.
