Westfield played perhaps its best game of the season, with the offense moving the ball very well overall and the defense-well, they really showed up. Other than 3-4 big plays from Patriot that gained the majority of their yardage, the Bulldog run defense was very stout and the secondary was very, very good, with excellent coverage and four INTs on the night (and the defense nearly picked off two more).
Patriot received the opening kickoff and went three and out. Westfield's Hinton had a nice 36 yard return to the Patriot 46 yard line, but the WF offense failed to move the ball and they punted at the Patriot 44 yard line. Patriot started their second drive at their own 20 yard line and after moving to just over midfield was again forced to punt. Starting on their own 24 yard line, WF put together a very efficient 76 yard drive in 7 plays and scored on a 4 yard Kim run to go in front 7-0 (Nugent XP) with 2:46 remaining in the first quarter. Patriot got a good return on the kickoff to their own 46 yard line, but Patriot's Sonnenberg was intercepted by WF's Morin on the WF 40 yard line. Unable to move the ball, WF went three and out and gave the ball back to Patriot on the Patriot 19 yard line. Patriot again punted after just three plays and WF had good field position on their own 46 yard line. WF went on to score on this drive, capping the drive with a 1 yard Kim run to extend the lead to 14-0 (Nugent XP) with 6:31 to play in the half. Patriot punted again on their next possession and WF again benefited from a short field, this time executing a 52 yard drive when Kim hit Woodley with a 14 yard scoring strike and the WF lead was extended to 21-0 (Nugent XP) with 2:29 remaining in the half. On Patriot's ensuing possession, WF's Sumney picked off a Sonnenberg pass at the WF 48 yard line but WF failed to score and punted just as the half ended.
In the second half WF received the ball to open the half and quickly drove 74 yards, scoring on an 11 yard Asante run to push the score to 28-0 (Nugent XP) with 9:17 to play in the third quarter. Patriot reached the WF 40 on their next possession but failed to complete a pass on 4th and 8 and turned the ball back over to WF. WF then punted to pin Patriot on their own 10 yard line, nearly recovering the muffed punt catch in the process. Patriot was able to move the ball better on this drive, reaching the WF 40 yard line when Sonnenberg tried to go deep - but he was picked off for the third time, this time by WF's Morin at the WF 5 yard line. Morin raced back upfield all the way to the Patriot 25 yard line, but in the process 4 flags were thrown on the play. After the referees sorted it all out there was a holding call on the return against WF and an unnecessary roughing call on Patriot, which resulted in an unsportsmanlike penalty on WF. After all that, WF started on their own 14 yard line. WF went on to punt, followed by a Patriot punt, then another WF punt. Patriot then started their final possession of the game on their own 25 yard line and marched all the way to the WF 9 yard line, helped by two big plays, before Sonnenberg was picked off for the 4th time, this time by WF's Sumney. WF then ran out the clock to seal the win, 28-0.
