Mother Nature conspired to take a good game and turn it into a miserable night just after halftime, but Westfield had enough to take a 29-13 win.
Westfield received the opening KO and WF's Hinton returned the KO 41 yards to the CH 44 yard line. The next play was a 35 yard Kim to Morin pass to the CH 9 yard line, but after a short gain and two incomplete passes WF had to settle for a 22 yard Nugent FG and the score was 3-0, WF, with 10:26 to play in the first quarter. Chantilly managed a first down on their first possession but ended up punting from their own 43 yard line, giving WF the ball on the WF 31 yard line. WF quickly went three and out, but CH's Harper came off the right side untouched to block the kick and CH's Thompson recovered on the WF 16 yard line. CH's Sparks then scored on a 2 yard run and CH was in the lead, 7-3 (Hughes XP) with 3:01 remaining in the first quarter. WF started their next possession on their own 10 yard line after a penalty on the KO, and again went three and out to give CH good field position on the CH 43 yard line. After moving backwards a bit, CH's O'Reilly had a 38 yard run to reach the WF 30 yard line, then CH converted a 4th and 1 at the WF 21 yard line, before WF's McClain recovered a fumble on the WF 26 yard line to kill the CH drive. WF then put together a 74 yard drive, highlighted by a Kim to Morin 44 yard pass play to the CH 4 yard line, before WF's Clancy scored on a 4 yard TD run and WF jumped back into the lead, 10-3 (Nugent XP) with 8:14 remaining in the half. Chantilly ran three plays and punted on the following possession, but this time WF's Asante broke through to block the kick. CH's Bernet scooped up the ball and ran for a first down, but a holding call negated the play and Chantilly punted again. The punt was short and WF took over on the CH 43 yard line. Kim soon linked up with Woodley for a long pass play to the CH 6 yard line before a Kim 4 yard TD run extended the WF lead to 17-7 with 4:44 remaining in the half. Chantilly would fumble WF's KO and ended up getting pinned deep, on their own 3 yard line, but then managed a long drive deep into WF territory before Hughes missed a short 21 yard FG (wide right) just seconds before the half ended.
CH received the second half KO and started at their own 15 yard line after mishandling the kick. Almost immediately, WF's Asante recovered a CH fumble on the CH 11 yard line and WF was looking to extend the lead. WF's Clancy then scored on a 6 yard run but Nugent missed the XP (tipped by CH) and WF was ahead 23-7 with 10:04 remaining in the third quarter. CH took the KO and started their possession on their own 19 yard line, advancing to the CH 45 where they faced a 4th and 1. After a questionable spot they had a first down, then CH's O'Reilly scored several plays later on a 34 yard TD run up the middle. CH elected to go for a 2XP try, but O'Reilly was stopped short and the score was now 23-13 with 4:40 remaining in the third quarter. With the rain now coming down in sheets and the wind howling (it was truly miserable, both on the field and in the stands), the CH KO went into the end zone and WF started on their own 20 yard line. WF went on to march down the field before they faced a 4th and 1 from the CH 4 yard line. WF's Asante took the handoff and broke through the line and had a clear line to the end zone, but the ball popped up and CH's Dante pounced on it at the CH 4 yard line to keep CH within striking distance. Note: At this point, notetaking became next to impossible. Suffice it to say that play was sloppy from this point on with two fumbles by WF and CH failing on two 4th down attempts, but WF managed to get one more score when Kim scored on a 4 yard run (2XP run stopped) with 7:16 remaining in the game to reach the final score of 29-13.
