Oakton came out strong and behind a good ground game drove from their own 23 yard line to the Westfield 30 yard line before they stalled and attempted a 47 yard FG that was blocked (by Morin?). WF started their drive on their own 20 yard line and managed to get to the Oakton 41 before a shanked punt gave the ball back to Oakton on the Oakton 34. Oakton only managed to get 15 yards on this drive and lined up to punt but the snap was high and the Oakton punter was tackled at the Oakton 31 yard line to give WF a short field. WF couldn't move the ball and faced a 4th and 4 at the Oakton 25 yard line but was successful with a 7 yard pass to get a new set of downs. Several plays later Kim took it in from 1 yard out and WF went in front 7-0 (Nugent XP) with 10:31 to play in the second quarter. On Oakton's next possession, starting on their own 26 yard line, they went three and out (on this drive WF began to figure out the Oakton offense and the going for Oakton was difficult for most of the remainder of the game). WF took over on their own 36 yard line and, after a big 40 yard pass play to Kiley, completed the 64 yard drive with a 15 yard Kim to Woodley pass to extend the lead to 14-0 (Nugent XP) with 7:12 remaining in the half. Oakton's next possession started on their own 20 yard line but they were forced to punt again from their own 38 yard line, giving WF the ball back on the WF 26. WF returned the favor, punting the ball back to Oakton where they started on their own 37 yard line. After another Oakton three and out WF started their next drive on the WF 47 and quickly scored when Kim hit Kiley for a 45 yard passing TD and the lead was extended to 21-0 (Nugent XP) with 1:30 to go in the half. The two teams then went into the locker room with that score.

In the second half WF got the ball first, on their own 20, reached midfield, then punted to Oakton. Oakton started their first drive of the second half on their 21 yard line but again went three and out; this time the Oakton punt was partially blocked by WF's Beach and WF took over on the Oakton 43 yard line. On the next play Kim connected with Morin on a 43 yard pass and WF extended the lead to 28-0 (Nugent XP) with 6:05 remaining in the third quarter. Oakton then went three and out-again-and gave WF a short field at the Oakton 38. After three plays gained little yardage, WF faced a 4th and 21 from the Oakton 36 yard line and lined up to punt. However, the play was a fake and Kim hit Goodman for a 30 yard gain to the Oakton 6 yard line. Kim then hit Woodley for a 6 yard passing TD and the lead extended to 34-0 (XP hit the upright) with 11:39 remaining in the game. At this point WF began subbing and Oakton took advantage, getting a one play, 65 yard passing TD from Campo to Corgnati to cut into the lead, 34-7 (Applegate XP). Trailing, Oakton attempted an onside kick that was recovered by WF on the WF 47 yard line. WF went on to drive to the Oakton 19 where a 4th and 1 attempt was stuffed by Oakton. Oakton then went the 81 yards to the end zone, with Campo connecting on an 8 yard pass to Kamal (Applegate XP) and the score was now 34-14 with 4:06 to play. After one more unproductive series each, the game ended with the final score 34-14.

Nugent was the placekicker? He made 4 of 5 XP attempts; the last one was blocked. What happened to Steinhilber? Was Nugent pulled up from the freshman or jv team?

You didn't mention Asante in your article, nor did his name show up in the Washington Post's game summary & stats.

WF QB Noah Kim had a very good passing game. He was 11-17 for 238 yards and 4 TDs. He also rushed 6 times for 18 yards and 1 TD. Even though he is a sophomore, he is playing at QB with confidence. He has shown improvements in every game. He will be a big factor in Westfield's chances in the playoffs.

Westfield's defense is still giving up too much yardage and too many big plays and too many points.

Oakton (1-6) is probably the best 1-6 team in Virginia. Oakton seems to have started scoring more since the Lake Braddock game. The Oakton-Madison game should be interesting; Oakton may pull an upset here.

Very Nice write up as always! Very objective type reporting and that's a trait not really seen in the media these days!

Nugent is the JV placekicker.

I don't believe the Washington Post rushing stats are complete, accurate or all correctly attributed (likewise with the receiving stats). Asante did not have a big night and didn't get many carries in the second half. I'd guess he had in the neighborhood of 15 carries for 60 yards. Just a wild guess.

Westfield's defense will be fine. For whatever reason they held out several of their starters on defense. If they hadn't gone very deep into the JV roster in the fourth quarter it would have been a shut out. They played a very vanilla game - I suspect keeping a low profile for the upcoming Centreville game.

Agree about QB Kim. Don't believe he has thrown an interception since the first quarter of game one.

Oakton had some players - their LB #75 Krush must have had 20 tackles last night.

Nugent was kicking the past three weeks for the JVs but it appears he has the best leg (at least for distance) among Steinhilber, Hildrup and him. I think he deserves to move up (nothing against Steinhilber or Hildrup; it is what it is). I initially thought he was a mid-season transfer but I guess he was on the team the entire time. As to the 5th XP being missed, it hit the upright and I am certain of that. Whether it was tipped a bit or not I did not see but it was certainly high enough, just not straight enough.

I did not mention Asante because when I do the write ups I only mention the scoring, turnovers, blocks, etc. Asante did not score last night. And, as 1amishfootballfan said, the Post stats are missing a lot. Not many people realize this, but the Post "article" was written by a Bot. Someone enters the passing and running totals, who scored when, then the computer "writes" the article. Lots of room for error but that is the way most things are done nowadays.

Thanks, I try to mention at least the kids who scored or did something else of significance, like TOs, XPs, long gains that set up a score, etc. I don't have the time to do a full, play by play so I take shorthand notes while trying to watch. Given that the papers give zero coverage unless it is a "game of the week" thing, its about all I can do. But again, thanks.

Oakton is certainly scoring more since the South Lakes game. Has something changed? Defense still pretty porous. They should get a win this week vs Chantilly.
