According to the rankings, they are in VISAA D1 but they don't participate (wgarlick said they play in "The Game" which interferes with playoffs) so I'm just wondering, do they compete for any type of state championship or is "The Game" their championship?

Also, what conference do those two compete in? I don't know a whole lot about these two programs, but I saw where one of their games drew a huge crowd and was on ESPN and has a lot of tradition, and it sounds like a bucket list type thing for me to do. Any info on them would be appreciated!

"The Game" is way more important to these teams than any state championship. This year will be their 114th meeting.

Woodberry plays in the Virginia Prep League with Collegiate, Fork Union, and St. Chris (as well as Trinity Episcopal, Christchurch, STAB, and Blue Ridge in other sports).

Episcopal plays in the Interstate Athletic Conference (IAC) with St. Stephen's/St. Agnes and several D.C. and Maryland schools. EHS hasn't been nearly as consistently good as Woodberry. Woodberry would almost always be the #1 seed in D-I if they participated. There have been plenty of years (especially recently) where EHS would not have made the playoffs.

The Tigers have something like a 58-48 lead in the series (with 8 ties I think). It's a huge draw for alumni from both schools.

This year's game should be much more competitive because Episcopal is much improved. Their league, the IAC isn't as competitive in DC as the WCAC, the league Bishop O'Connell plays in. However, the IAC is much more competitive in football than the Prep League.

Frankly, I don't see Woodberry or Episcopal ever foregoing the game in favor of the playoffs.
