Highland Springs vs Martinsburg...Two teams that mirror each other. Speed vs Speed!!! 2 Great Programs. For those who don’t know Martinsburg is not your typical WV High School Team. They currently have the 2nd longest winning streak in the country at 46 in a row. They have won 7 of the last 9 WV AAA State titles. Highly probable that they will make 8 out of 10 this season which would be the 4th in a row!!!They play a schedule that is 50% Out of State games annually. Not saying they would defeat Highland Springs but IMHO it would be a very competitive game. Hope the powers that be would consider this match up. The Burg is always up for a great challenge due to the fact that no team in WV can compete with them. Good Luck to HSHS in their quest to repeat as State Champions!!! #VSUALUM

Better yet let's see each year start out with the Class 6 vs Class 5 Champs, 4 vs 3, etc. Since those team's won't likely meat during the regular season, it's an opportunity for some big crowds, possibly some big revenue and lots of fun for us fans, too!

If we are talking about all time teams I believe VA would annihilate WVA. I will absolutely admit being biased though just for the record.

Virginia has a much deeper talent pool and many more high schools than WV. Martinsburg is just on a different level within the State of WV. There is no competition here. They are always looking for a good challenge. I hope a game with one of the VA elite programs can happen in the near future! Martinsburg has no problem going on the road just would like a 2 year commitment with each team getting a home game. Just completed a 2 year series with Academy Park, PA from the Philadelphia area. Need to fill that opening for next season.

Highland Springs sent out the request, but was declined by M’burg! HSHS sent out requests as far west as Ohio,North to PA,and South. Only 2 replies! Avalon and Page were the only 2 out of VA.

Might be due to the fact Martinsburg had 5 OOS games this season and 5 in state games and their schedule was complete when that call was made. I know that a 2 year series with Academy Park, PA a 5 A school just ended so there will be an opening next season. Just an FYI!!!

I know HSHS is trying to play St Francis & Dematha, but I’m not sure about any other OOS TEAMS.

Coach Palmieri at Mallard Creek in Charlotte would love to hear from the Bulldogs. He's continually searching for tough competition for the Mavericks as they continually have a hard time scheduling teams for their ooc games. In fact, I'm sure he'd love to hear from the Springers as well. Vance who is in Mallard Creek's conference has played a couple of games against Virginia teams. In fact, this year they went to Lynchburg and played Heritage.

I've been telling anyone who would listen the same thing. Call it the Tournament of Champions. In basketball too

Would Martinsburg really be able to play with Highland Spring. I remember some hype about them being real good and barely beating Sherando a few years back. I was at the Sherando game when they lost to Salem by running clock.

HSHS should reach out to Prep Gridiron Logistics. PGL works with St. Frances and St John's, among others, to put together games. I heard PGL reached out to HSHS early this year, but didn't get a response. It would be great to see them represent VA.

Yes, Martinsburg is that good. In previous years they would regularly play the big boys from Loudoun County schools such as:Broad Run, Briar Wood when they had Trace McSorey (Penn State) as their QB. Tuscarora when they had Noah Reimers a beast of a RB and VA Gatorade POY. Due to the growth in Loudoun County and additional High Schools it limited the opportunity to schedule them. Martinsburg annually has problems filling their schedule. Martinsburg has also played several 6A schools such as: Patrick Henry-Roanoke, Stonewall Jackson Manassas and beat them. Martinsburg will play just about any public school with similar enrollment or even larger enrollments. Just would like a 2 year commitment.

I do know that Martinsburg reached out a few years ago to N.Meck to see if they would be interested in playing. I believe N.Meck plays Mallard annually.

No disrespect to any of those programs but they are not on the same level as Highland Spring.

All of the public teams in the state of North Carolina were reached out to also. Scheduling conflicts and other things hindered the ability to make some of those matchups happen. Mallard Creek and Vance being amongst those teams. We want to try and only play Public schools because VHSL doesn’t give points for private. The Avalon game was done this year because we couldn’t find an opponent for week 1. Had a team from PA, DC, NC and as far as Florida say no. So we are trying to expand our profile. We got a big one next year already to start the season.

Not opening with Oscar Smith next year?! Or will they be the second game again?

I saw Martinsburg scrimmage against Champe (JCHS and was not impressed). Top NOVA teams like Stone Bridge, Westfield, Freedom-W Lake Braddock or Broad Run would not have much issues with them let alone what Springers would do. They are mid-tier NOVA school at best.

Yes, I believe their cycle is a two year cycle.
I think the problem is, they are on a different two-year cycle then teams in Virginia. Remember also, Highland Springs does not have a field to play on until 2021

A scrimmage that both teams sat around for 3 hours because of the weather!!! Do a little internet research regarding games between Broad Run vs Martinsburg. 2 comprehensive beat downs in favor of Martinsburg.

Martinsburg WAS sent a letter from Highland Springs and they DECLINED a home & home.

Do any other VA schools (public or private) use PGL for scheduling help?

I don't know if any do currently, but I believe Bishop Sullivan may have under Coach Scott, which is probably how they landed games against IMG and Colquitt (GA). Coach Morgan's Marrietta team (GA) uses them now, which makes me wonder whether Coach Morgan used them at Oscar Smith.

Yes, I used to live in Hagerstown, Md, about 15-20 minutes from Martinsburg. Got a chance to see Martinsburg quite a few times over the years. They like to stay within West Virginia or the area of D.C. and Virginia teams close to the WV panhandle. Thus they play Sherando every year.

I would have like to see HSHS play East or West Forsyth in North Carolina over Page. Page has been decent in the past few years but they are really struggling this year. Those Forsyth teams are really good this year.

They will travel...in the past few years they have travelled to: State College , PA a great environment for HS Football and won, Philadelphia to play Class 5A Academy Park and won, Roanoke to play Patrick Henry which bounces between Class 5/6a and won, Lynchburg to Play Class 4A Liberty Christian and won, This season they travel 3.5 hours to Class 4 A power Salem. So A trip to Richmond would not be out of the question. Not implying they would beat HSHS but IMHO they can compete. Would like to see them play. HooSprings stated that Martinsburg declined to play... I guess he is in the know!!!

They stated something about an “out of cycle” issue.

I think I just heard on a podcast that EAST Forsyth is just like Highland Springs in that they have not lost since 2017. I also heard that Page is playing the 30th ranked schedule,by Maxpreps,in the country. so,their record can be deceiving, especially with Highland Springs is being sandwiched between the two Forsyth games.

GW Danville used to play West and they were loaded. East won the state championship last year. My cousin was the RB on that team and he’s playing at Wake Forest.

All of them are good teams! Page lost in the 2017 4A state finals. East hasn’t lost since 2017,like Highland Springs. West is still undefeated this year too.

Ok cool I didn't know that I was just looking at the margin they lost by in their last 2 losses

Hldaniel stated it in a earlier post, and I KNOW he’s in the know! Stonebridge wanted to play HSHS,but only if it was the first game of the year, and HAD to be the date HSHS played OSmith. Big first game next year too,but the team has not been announced.
