Wow - underdog Essex v Riverheads mirrors underdog UVA v Clemson in stats and odds...

I was just looking at a preview of the ACC Championship tonight with the massive underdog UVA taking on the super Powerhouse Clemson.

Many of the stats and odds mirror the chances that the massive underdog Essex faces at super Powerhouse Riverheads for the State Semis.

Both Clemson and Riverheads have won major Championships the last few years.

Clemson is on a 27 game win streak.

Riverheads is on a 24 game win streak.

Both teams have usually destroyed all competition and have put most of the subs in during the 2nd half.

Clemson has outscored the competition this season 543 to 121.

Riverheads has outscored the competition this season 623 to 126.

Clemson is favored by 28 1/2 points tonight.

I would bet that Vegas would set the line about that exact wide margin in favor of Riverheads in order to get anyone to bet on Essex.

Both Clemson and Riverheads now have legendary Coaches - Swinney and Casto.

I'm disappointed with the offensive gameplan from Essex. Big ol guys on that line I'm sure and they're flinging it all over the field instead of taking advantage of that line. First drive of the game and they were breaking off chunks on runs and instead they just HAVE to chuck a bomb that gets picked off. Game over.

Essex was driving and near another score. Then the flags come out. It takes away the momentum. The Coach Jones torn up and arguing with refs because Riverheads pulls off Essex player's helmet and refs penalize Essex.

It was almost 21-16 at half.

Instead, Riverheads gets ball and throws a crazy pass TD with only a few seconds left. Radio said Riverheads pushed the Essex defender hard off and then caught ball for TD.

Still, how could Essex allow a long TD pass at the end of game? Rapp ate up the Essex secondary last week in the 1st half (but dropped two wide open TD passes, scored one).

I am sure that Casto studied that and executed it.

It was almost 21-16 at half.

Now it is 28-8 and most likely over.

Actually, Essex would have the lead at the half had the refs not taken off their big 1st TD off the board.

Radio said Coach Jones stayed on field after horn to let the refs know his displeasure.

Heck, as I said, the refs will give Essex some calls now that the game is almost out of reach.

Oh well, Riverheads also is a well oiled, disciplined machine and Casto trains them in how not to get penalties etc.

To upset them, things must go your way. I have said for three years or more, the only way Region A even has a chance is to play Riverheads in the East (and still Riverheads would be favored).

Good luck to Riverheads next week. Time for a challenge. Casto, you must be bored by now. I would want to see if I could win the 2A Title but to each his own.....

I should have tried that line a couple years back when I forgot to get my car inspected lol. I've heard so many things about their numbers, everything from smack dab at 475 down to 447 up to 525 and everywhere in between that at this point it's like whatever. The reality is 1A is a joke at this point. Outside of Galax when was the last time a school with under 400 students was a contender? Basically every year it's a combination of 4 of the largest schools enrollment wise duking it out, the rest of 1A is left in the dust.

Clean game for the most part but there were some obvious misses by the refs but anyone that thinks it was home cooking, I will tell you on here or in person that you are delusional. There were half a dozen more holding/blocking in the back calls that could have been called in the Trojans. That said, there are several very good athletes for Essex but the line play was not overly impressive for as good a QB as Ashlock is. Surprisingly enough when Jones pulled him and had #14 run the offense in the first half, they moved the ball effectively. As a high school football fan I want to congratulate Essex on a great year. I have tons of respect for the team I seen play today, one of the most diverse teams I witnessed the Gladiators play this year.

The only one that I see who is matching them in all of the above, is Galax, and I don't see Galax beating them next week either. Riverheads is just a well oiled machine and with only 9 seniors on the roster, I expect they will be back here next year as well.

Congrats to Riverheads! They 100% deserved to win as I stated over and over for years.

I have only said that Riverheads is far superior to any team in 1A for over three years and praised them. In fact, I said only a perfect game with calls in your favor will give anyone a chance.

The better team won. Absolutely. I said at beginning of this thread Riverheads is favored by over 28 points and would win this game 90% of the time.

In fact, I said back in July that they win every game in the 1A playoffs by at least 3 or 4 TDs (probably more).

I think I said two or three years ago they would win the state title for many years to come.

We believe in our program unlike you @uvacavs1 , the Tri-Rivers all had young teams , both Franklin and Sussex will be tough, when we do don’t start calling us thugs , Worry about how Essex continues to dog and embarrass everyone in your district meaning you will or anyone else will get the opportunity to play at the State level in the playoffs I guess the NN is owned by Essex you should be pondering that instead of having a losers mentality , come on man you’re better than that !

Are you insane , This was the NN best year to be on the big stage, next year it’s back to mediocrity. Honestly with all the hype from NN Essex still dragged everyone. Sussex and Franklin plays a tougher district schedule than anyone in 1A, not against rec ball teams.
