You won't
see any state championship banners on Oak Hill's wall. That's because they
compete for National championships and their players routinely play in the
McDonald's All-American high school All-Star game. The Warriors reload with the
best talent outside the Commonwealth but this year they have a Virginian in the
rotation at guard. Junior Keith Hornsby played at Hampton Roads Academy but he
matriculated to Oak Hill to further his basketball development.

"Coach
Smith wanted me to play there, and I knew Oak Hill would give me opportunities
that HRA could not," Hornsby said. "I knew I would have to get better by playing
against all these high major players and I'm already seeing the improvement with
being here only two months. The competition is incredible. Every day I guard and
get guarded by guys like Doron Lamb, Roscoe Smith, and Juwan Staten.?So far
I'm a backup point guard, but I have the 6th or 7th man spot down. Playing with
this competition has made me improve a lot already in categories I couldn't
improve on at HRA. It's a very good experience."

In the season opener
against Central Carolina Academy on Halloween night, Hornsby tallied 9 points, 4
assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. This followed a 33 pts, 10 assists, 9 steals, 6 rebounds in a scrimmage
last month. Hornsby has an offer from UNC-Ashville and is receiving
interest from other schools. "Everything at Oak Hill has been going great and
I've been exposed to bigger colleges," said Hornsby. "Now, I have George Mason,
Furman, Navy, Air Force, and Radford recruiting me. Navy and Air Force have
stepped up there recruiting on me. I guess I look like a military guy for some
reason. UNC Asheville's offer still remains and they really like me, although
they fear they're going to lose me to a bigger place. I really like them
though...I'm definitely considering Asheville."

Hornsby has grown
four inches since entering high school and now stands?6-foot-3. He's always
been a good perimeter shooter and now hopes to improve his defense and point
guard skills. "The first two and a half weeks we just played pick up," Hornsby
said. "The play here has forced my game to be more intense. I have gotten faster
and I'm shooting the ball better due to our constant
working."
