Naturally, this has to be touted as a "rematch" of last year's 3OT game but I wonder how many realize how few players from Westfield are actually returning to title game action for a second time.
If I have it correct, Westfield has 3 players on defense that are returning starters from last year’s (2015) championship game versus Oscar Smith:
Joseph Free #6 DB
Kevin Petrillo #32 LB
Zachary Jewell #93 DL
The Westfield offense has 5 returning starters:
Nolan Cockrill #97 TE
Ivory Frimpong #4 WR
Rehman Johnson #17 QB
Edward Quituga #74 OL
Jean-Marc Tsetou #75 OL
In addition, Westfield’s punter and place kicker Brian Delaney #5 is returning and they have 3 other players that got some playing time @ Charlottesville:
Nicholas Divecchia #19 DB
Sean Eckert #2 WR
Christian Karl #64 OL
So overall, the defense is nearly entirely new while the offense returns a solid core. Just to be clear I am not referring to players on the team/roster -- but players who actually saw game action as starters, substitutions or special teams.
If anyone has the same info for Oscar Smith it would be interesting to know. I remember thinking last year that the majority of the OS team appeared to be underclassmen.
