You clearly aren’t in the know lolI don't think anyone is talking crazy both teams have great defense and defense will determine this game at Liberty Saturday

Aside from the usual suspects (Mater Dei, SJB, Bishop Gorman, etc), I don't put much stock into private school sports. Here in Ohio, private schools are in the playoffs with public schools and routinely lose to the pubs (Moeller just lost the chip game to a public school 🤭🤭🤭). To me, that shows that amount of talent in Ohio when going a private school doesn't mean much. That's why I put OH over NC. The gap isn't huge though! It makes me wonder how good some of those private schools really are to be honest. I've seen a number of them. I watched that game. Mallard Creek had a noticeable speed advantage. Some of them, like Providence Day, elite talent, just not a lot of depth. Some of them are pretty good though.
I'm guessing they looked historically. Historically, the only team in C4 not in A or B that's made noise in the state is Salem. Proper NoVA outside of 5 and 6 hasn't disrupted anything since....???Then put it to a vote before the season begins and don't change things late in the season just because potential pairings are trending in one direction.
You never know who's going to get blown out though. There have been great matchups which have been anticipated and they've turned into blowouts. You can't always stop them. So I don't agree with that argument.
And to be honest, I think the change was made personally because they were anticipating Dinwiddie in the Final. And although Varina is extremely talented and good enough to bear Dinwiddie, I don't think their appearance was anticipated. The decision makers probably feel like they lucked out just because they got a competent team that may compete.
One off game aka Any Given Friday so I tend to disregard those games. I do agree that Ohio is down this year. Ohio down year = NC average year/VA good year.Mallard Creek went on the road, short notice, and beat Archbishop Moeller this year. I don't think Ohio is as strong as they have been historically. And I think North Carolina has gotten stronger.
Then put it to a vote before the season begins and don't change things late in the season just because potential pairings are trending in one direction.I get the argument against changing the bracket mid season because it does send a really bad message. But at the same time I think you have to try to minimize the chances of blowouts in your state championship games.
Which is why I chose not to go the rankings/polls route. I'm using the eyeball test with 99% bias removed. Based off of places I've and watched a good amount of football, this is my public school football rankings.
1) Ohio
2) North Carolina
3) Missouri
4) VA
5) MD
6) Pop Warner anywhere in the USA
7) New Jersey
This is where the VHSL should step in and say No. And if the region wants to propose it for next season, then they would put it up for a vote in the Executive Committee prior to the athletic calendar starting. The VHSL had nothing whatsoever to do with it. It was 100% B Regions decision.
This is not cross-bracketing.Should’ve cross bracketed C5 too 🤷🏽♂️
If they had changed up the bracket pairings prior to the season, that's one thing. But to "fix it" and change them late in the season for only one classification is wrong.Man what??? 🤣🤣
We got the best possible matchup in the state title and that’s all that matters. A beat D 34-0 and B beat C 28-0. We didn’t need to see this in state finals
I really like Linn. But he was playing a sophomore Qb in his first year of starting QB. He has opened up with more passing specifically for games like this, but you could tell Saturday the QB was throwing to the receiver the play called for without regard to coverage or looking for alternative possibilities; that comes with experience. Result 3 picks. KR’s QB was a senior and very adept of reading coverages and going elsewhere. Excellent QB. His receivers caught very well. Lafayette’s QB will learn snd progress. He has 2 more years. It's hard to be too critical of Linn and what he's accomplished, but I do wonder if a more versatile offense would have served them better in these big games?
I agree with you partially. There are some top football players in NoVa that are peppered throughout WCAC rosters. Not nearly as many from MD but VA is definitely losing some.
Two years ago at Liberty, the stadium was not cleared in between games. Not sure if that changed last year and or if that will be there case this time around.Yeah, sorry...Pretty sure they clear the stadium after the first game. The VHSL has to make their money!
I agree with you partially. There are some top football players in NoVa that are peppered throughout WCAC rosters. Not nearly as many from MD but VA is definitely losing some. The difference is the private schools in Maryland. That's where the talent is going. I bet if you pull up player rankings on one of the recruiting sites almost all of them are from private schools. Virginia is not like that.

Based off of places I've and watched a good amount of football, this is my public school football rankings.I wouldn't give maxpreps much credit, but you won't find our schools getting much love from the national polls or the national forums. So for me, rankings is not much of an argument for VA superiority over MD.
How many in Virginia are ranked?
Got it...thanks!Go to Phoebus football page on IG and look at the tagged accounts with Varina.

I agree, with maybe from top to bottom. I've been in the DMV for 23 years and didn't give MD publics much weight initially. But those teams that I mentioned are always in the mix and have held their own against our schools when they played them.I'd give the top 2 or 3 publics but no more. During my time living in MD (~5 years), I went to several HS games throughout the state. I saw a lot of good individual talent but not much as collective teams. In a one game matchup, anything can happen. As far as a total season, QO and Wise absolutely. Dunbar would be C4...yikes. Plus I don't really believe in public school football in major cities (my bias is showing). Fort Hill would present problems with the O they run (the veer if I'm not mistaken). Again, I'm looking at a whole season, not just the one off.

How many in Virginia are ranked?Maryland publics are hot garbage. Virginia is way better. Quince Orchard went 13-0. They're not ranked. Because they don't play anyone.

Where's all of this talk taking place? The talk online is nuts! VHSL needed this game!
Sounds like a special group of young men. Graham only has 9 or 10 seniors and a lot of underclassmen starters. Should be an interesting game with contrasting styles on offense and defense. Good luck to both teams and let's hope for an injury free and great game. This young group of Rams have accomplished what a lot of people thought they could not this year. Win or lose against Graham it has been on heck of a ride this year. Only having 7 seniors and only 3 of them getting alot of playing time us impressive.
I am extremely proud of this group and honored to have been able to coach them I. Youth league since they were 5 year old little kids. To see them grow into fine young men in the community and getting a shot at a state championship is just awesome to me.
