glad people put respect on his name. A legendary Salem running back that people tend to forget in conversations about Salem running backs, partially because Salem has had so many greats, and partially because he played on a “bad” Salem team.
I remember "The Comeback" Cave Spring had beaten Salem 34-6 in 2010. They were looking for a repeat performance the following year. They jump out to a 26-0 lead. Salem methodically claws back, but still trail 26-7 with only a couple minutes left in the 3rd. Put the cape on #6 and he and the Spartans refused to lose, scoring 22 unanswered to complete the comeback 29-26.

Riverheads 29 Stuarts Draft 28 Final

Here we go again. Dishonest is far from what Riverheads is. We will move down and up again many more times in my lifetime and it has ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY nothing to do with dishonesty. I am not expert like Gunz on the clock issue and yes the clock operator screwed up once that I saw and if he said more I am not expert enough to know. You can take the dishonesty and stick it where the sun does not shine.

Does anyone know what the total yards are for Salems backs this year? Persinger should be way over 1000. Would love to see a top 10 list of running backs at Salem and their yards .
Marcus Parker, Marty Bishop, DLo Ramsey, Persinger brothers, Fox, Peyton Lewis, Goodpasteur, Harriston, Jo Jo Harris, Claybourne, Haley , Wood probably leaving some good ones out. Doing this from memory.
Lewis most highly recruited---does that make him number 1?

Marty Spartan Ball Bishop. He was that dude man. He single handedly almost beat Christiansburg and Magna Vista that year. People forget how good everybody was back then. It wasn’t any pushovers. Franklin County, Hidden Valley, Cave Spring, Christiansburg, Salem, Byrd, PH, Pulaski, Northside.. Mannn the Roanoke area was stacked in all sports.

I agree it’s a blessing and a curse. I also played on an 8-4 Salem team that I believe could have beat the 12-1 team I played on. I can count on one hand the solitary plays that made the difference in those four losses on the 8-4 season. Conversely on the 12-1 team, many games were close and the luck went in the opposite direction where we won. Does that make the 8-4 team a “bad” team if I could make a sound argument as to why my 12-1 team wouldn’t be able to handle some of the weapons my 8-4 team had? Certianly couldn’t say that according to the 10 game standard some people have hardlined here on this platform.

The point being, all Salem teams have the ability to go all the way in my opinion, sometimes things just go right and sometimes they don’t. There is always an element of chance that goes into these things.

I’m sure the same thing with dinwiddie. Think how a handful of plays could have changed things in a big way for a whole season. And that could be the difference between someone calling your team “bad”, “good”, or “great”. It’s just the difference in a few plays over the course of thousands all season.
Yes, I'd definitely take 2011 Salem with Marty Bishop over 2012 Salem. The 2011 Spartans hung with Brenden Motley's Christiansburg, which gave Trace McSorley's Briar Woods all they could handle.

Hayfield

Heads are going to roll when this is all said and done no matter what happens. I believe school board members will be replaced, there will be a new administration, AD and coach at Hayfield. This is being talked about on Elliott in the Morning, a morning show on XL102 in Richmond and northern Virginia. Grant and Danny, a radio show in DC was talking about it the other day. I wouldn't be surprised if this makes national headlines if it hasn't already.
Hayfield probably gets cleaned out and, maybe, the superintendent. However, the school board was just elected last year. I don't think any will resign unless they're directly implicated instead of just not overseeing the process as they should have.

Hayfield back in the playoffs...maybe not

And there is more.......now FCPS is trying to suppress the media too.

I am getting fat eating all the popcorn that goes along with this debacle.

King George @ Dinwiddie

Dinwiddie is one of my favorite teams and may even be home one day.. King George is without question the 3rd best offense Dinwiddie has played all year. Maury put up 47, Matoaca put up 39.. Wouldn’t short change that score much. @General172011 I feel like Dinwiddie would have to cause 5 turnovers like they did on Friday to beat them by 3+ scores. I’ve been asked by a few sports people how I see the second round playing out and I think both B matchups are about as even as they come. I don’t think any team is 2 scores better than the other.

My storylines for this game

Dinwiddie and KG match up really well. Neither’s line is extremely big but both play disciplined/assignment football and are well coached. I was impressed with Dinwiddie’s offensive line and what they lack in size (they’re not really that small at all), they make up for it in aggression and they don’t make many mistakes. KG’s offensive line is undersized as well but may be the best coached bunch in the state. If KG’s offensive line gives Koch time, the Foxes will have a chance.

I think KG’s defensive gameplan last year was masterful even though the Generals scored 28. They took the run away from Harry and forced him into passing. Don’t know if they have the DBs this year to force him into 4 interceptions but they definitely can’t afford to let him run and extend drives.

KG’s running game is very very good. Junior Simeon Battle (over 1700 yards total this year) and Pitt commit Charles Johnson are the 1-2 punch. Charles is involved on offense but I’d imagine he’ll get a significant amount of carries on Saturday. Battle may be one of the shiftiest backs in B. He’s waited his turn and has been big play after big play for Lunsford’s offense.

I really like KG’s receivers in this one. Dinwiddie and KG’s best receiver didn’t play last week so we’ll see… Ky’Mani Carpenter and Gunnar Reagar (if he plays) will be a tough match up for Dinwiddie’s secondary. Charles Johnson will get some targets and he will take it to the house.

Both defenses has some holes. Dinwiddie’s linebackers are their strong spot, KG’s linebackers are theirs. I think Dinwiddie’s secondary has more experience but the young boy Hudson Callahan (sophomore) and Carpenter have been interception and PBU merchants for the Foxes.

As I said in the initial post, this game will come down to coaching. Mills and Lunsford are two of the best in the state. Hard to pick against Dinwiddie at home and in a revenge game, but they’ll have to beat KG on Saturday and vice versa.

Hayfield

I've been watching from a far (relocating)... Read a couple intriguing articles from today in Fairfax.

6 FCPS Coaches signed a letter with plans to forfeit their games vs Hayfield. Not sure if they'll be playoff games... Or can they forfeit games already played? Or both?

FCPS School board has fired the law firm who represented the families that filed the injunction vs the VHSL..

Same school board is preparing to conduct their own investigation. Sounds like things are getting very serious.... Too bad they waited so long to get involved!

Riverheads 29 Stuarts Draft 28 Final

Probably time to move on guys. Good Lord man, let it go fellas.
Agree. Game over, game in the history books, one winner, one loser, and everyone moves on. Won’t be replayed and one school can get ready for next season’s games, and one team gets another week. Jimmy V said never give up, never ever give up but give this up and move on. Just a thought from an old coach now enjoying retirement in beautiful East Tennessee.

Varina vs Huguenot

Their games against Powhatan & Monacan make me think they lose this game. Both of those teams are spread teams who run the ball & in both those games they trailed against inferior talent. Now you goto Varina and play against a team with the same scheme but SIGNIFICANTLY better talent who has played a stronger schedule than you, I think in the 4th quarter that will come into play. It means something when a team has been in a war an knows how to squeeze out a win even when they play bad. I said 24-22 Varina this weekend I’m starting to lean 28-16 Varina. I’ve just got to see it to believe it from Huguenot.

King George @ Dinwiddie

I think KG will struggle in the run game. They have been susceptible to the big play in the run game all year. If Dinwiddie can play mistake free in the run game this game could get away quickly because that allows the RPO game to come into effect. If KG stays in the game it’ll be because they’ve attacked the Generals over the top (passing game) as well as getting a few turnovers. I’m very interested in King George’s first drive to see if they try to establish the deep ball early. Dinwiddie will be up for this game being that they get a chance to try and exact revenge for last year & seeing KG give up 40, 33, 36, 35,42 with many players going both ways has me thinking Dinwiddie could possibly reach 50 if they get a few stops. I’m gonna go 49-21 Generals
