Well, Well. Week 10. What caught my eye this week?

Amelia forfeited their game for next week because of a reported lack of players. So, if this is accurate, and Amelia still qualifies 8th for the playoffs, do they A). Play the game, B). Forfeit the game, or C). Remove themselves from competition and does this allow the next team to move up to 8th?

I do not think Amelia has enough warm bodies to play anymore this year.

Skyline 37 Brentsville 22 Game Story

Excellent recap schoolboard.
Good sportsmanship taking a knee that close.
Nothing against Brentsville, but that major upset just ain’t gonna happen.
They already had over 500 yards of offense. They just wanted the game over. Yes, good sportsmanship. But I think they just wanted to get the game over and celebrate the win.

Well, Well. Week 10. What caught my eye this week?

Glass beating Heritage shocked pretty much everyone in the Lynchburg area. Glass's offense has been pretty bad this year, getting shut out twice in district play. Didn't look any better against Heritage but they did benefit from a 90+ yard kickoff return and then blocked a punt to set up a 4 yard TD drive. According to the paper, they only had like 105 yards of total offense. But their defense and special teams were enough to knock off Heritage, and keep them alive for a playoff spot in 4D.

Well, Well. Week 10. What caught my eye this week?

What caught my eye is Spotsylvania (4-5) scoring 35 points on King George. 28 of them were in the first half and they scored in the 3rd quarter to make it 40-35 before King George pulled away. The got the win and that's what counts. Spotsylvania must have played a heck of a game to hang with them well into the 3rd quarter. King George is great offensively but are they good enough defensively to hang with Varina, Dinwiddie, and Huguenot?

Congratulations to Varina on their big win today.

4B will be very interesting.

Final: Tazewell 245, Graham 185

Wow. Hard to get in a flow with that many penalties
Nearly an hour 1st quarter. Truly, a penalty in any high school game could be called every play & most refs are more selective. If a ref wanted they could call holding all night long on every team.
Not that a lot weren’t deserved by both teams, they were. The personal fouls were terrible. I believe Tazewell had a player ejected. The refs let the game get away from them (not excusing the teams) but when refs let the game get away from them, it’s hard to get it back under control. It lead to a lot of frustration in the players and provocation that wouldn’t have happened otherwise.

Varina vs Highland Springs

I am not willing to, nor do I have the personal knowledge to debate the guys who watch a ton of games like @BoKnowsSports, @General172011, and @GoBlue2109 on who is going to win Region B. The top four teams are very sound and are capable of matching the States best teams. I prefer to look at trends and styles. After doing the math (Max/expected points) it looks like a Dinwiddie win over Matoaca will provide enough points for the Generals to edge out Varina for the top spot. I realize that's a tough get, but if you want to walk the walk you have to win pressurized games (Good job Varina and Phoebus today). With that being said I like Dinwiddie's chances at home, on grass, and with a crazy crowd.

Since 2008, Dinwiddie has been beaten once (2017 Louisa) at home after being seeded #1 in the region and have only lost at home in the playoffs four times since 2008 (2010 Phoebus 2012 Hopewell, 2017 Louisa, and 2021 PH-Ashland).

I like Huguenots talent (most complete team) Varina's defense, and King George's offense. Each have their Achilles heel. The right matchup is imperative.

Will talk more about this once everybody gets finished with the regular season next week. Good luck to all. Let's stay healthy and get ready to battle.
