No Graham at Union thread?

Great game between 2 solid teams. Graham's defense is Radford offense 2023 type good/dominant. It is tough to beat a quality opponent twice in one season, but it's also tough to beat an elite opponent once in a season. Be surprised if these 2 don't play again and I would be surprised if Union and Graham lose another game from now through December to a team not named Graham or Union.
Not to sound too much like a Homer, but the ceiling for Graham is much higher then what they have shown so far. Maybe not defensively, they've performed extremely well on the defensive side of the ball. The offense is still a work in progress, but I think they stumbled onto a few things that worked well in the 2nd half of that game. The offense will only get better as the season goes on. Gage Palmer is still learning at running back, but he was running harder and lower to the ground during the Union game. I think they found themselves a running back. Also, the 2 QB system will gel a little bit more once they figure out the best situations for each QB to be in the game. Last couple of seasons, the defense developed as the season went on. This year, it's the offense's turn. Not as much depth on the line this year, but the starters are pretty dang good. They have a ton of speed and talent at the skill positions, just got to get the offense clicking. Not a good flow to their offense yet, but it's getting there.

Essex @ King & Queen…Is a forfeit by K&Q this Friday…

Well, you have to find someone willing to play you and that hasn't been easy for Essex. Jamestown has dropped them. And as far as those Bay Rivers District teams are concerned, that league is adding Gloucester next year meaning 9 district games and only one non-district game in either Week 0 or Week 1. I'm certain Essex will keep Sussex Central in Week 0 and likely playing King William in Week 1 (with King William dropping Clarke County). I'd say keeping K&Q on the schedule would be a good thing simply because of the gate that game could draw, but not certain if K&Q is willing to continue after this week's forfeit. Maybe the rating scale changes next year might help scheduling opportunities. Hopefully, some regions will create scales that will not "punish" larger schools for playing smaller schools, but then again if that happens some larger schools may only schedule smaller schools in hopes of enhancing the W-L ledger.

Chuck I just wanted to say I admire you for all you do for the Danville community. I have never met you before but I have watched some of your broadcasts and you do a great job. I’m happy for you guys. You are having a good season and I wish you all the best in your games to come.

My wager is that Phoebus is the clear favorite to win the title this year and that there are 4-ish other teams that aren't on Phoebus's level but are a cut above the rest, and could give them a game on the right day. Those four would be Dinwiddie, Huguenot, Varina, and Salem. From what I've seen, Salem's fans have been a bit underwhelmed by this year's edition of the Spartans, but I've heard that kind of talk from them before and it always feels like they're a threat to win the championship regardless.

Sherando, Handley, the NOVA teams, and a few of the southern teams I know less and little about would probably fit into the group just below those four. I could move a couple of them up if they continue to impress, but at present I'd say the 6-15 range are pretty closely matched.
I just want to throw something out there. I did see Handley play once last year at Handley. They have a good athlete in Hassan Akanbi. I think he plays running back but I could be mistaken. I did see Sherando play once last year. Sherando holds the one spot in the 4D power rankings right now. Sherando quarterback Micah Carlson has a good arm. Can pick defenses apart.

Honestly I just don't know as much about the teams out in Region 4A. Know Hampton has talent and gave King George a great game, but the Foxes have disappointed so far this year, and since they aren't in my honorable mention neither are the Crabbers (for now). Smithfield could move up as well but like Bo said their performance against Jamestown was not exactly encouraging.
Ok that makes sense

Relax bro, that’s a hell of a reach. Smithfield beat Jamestown 7-0 last week 😂 JAMESTOWN dawg..

Hampton got blown out by King George.. Hampton not even top 20 in C4..
Maybe the word i should’ve used is compete. Smithfield and Hampton have the talent to compete with a lot of teams out west.

Sidenote i saw 7-0 against Jamestown and assumed that’s how maxpreps labeled forfeits…no clue how that game ended 7-0 and it definitely makes me look at them different

Wilson/Riverheads Game Highlights Shenandoah's First Big Weekend

I like Riverheads to prevail but Wilson has the ability to give them a run for their money. Their defense has been solid for the most part this season and the Podgorski to Baucom combination adds an element that must be defended in their run-first attack. I haven't seen Riverheads this season yet but they have a long history so it's hard to go against them unless the eye test dictates otherwise.

Agree with Draft, Staunton has athletes but has struggled this season.

Gap is the majority pick.

I like Madison against Fort Defiance. The Indians have the big win over the Gladiators but Madison has looked good in all three games. Their only loss was against Buckingham and they only trailed by a point at halftime. The Indians may prevail, but they will have to play great defense and control the clock/tempo when they are on offense.
In the for what it is worth category…Madison actually led Buckingham at the half…15-14.

VHSL Region 4D Standings as of 9/24/2024

Semis? Loooooooooooong way off for this Salem team. Coen Logan must return, defense must get tougher and my goodness, the coaches need to get the kids' heads screwed on straight. I bet there was a solid 6-8 times last week where someone was missing from a play and had to be yelled at to go off the sideline and get in. They came out of a timeout with 13 kids on the field!

I've never seen a Salem team that lackadaisical and unprepared and my view count on games is in the several hundreds range. As it stands right now, I feel like 12 games is where they're at. 13 would be a successful season, anything else would be massive overachieving. We'll see where they are in six weeks or so but right now? Yeesh.
I would agree with you there that Coen needs to return. I’m not sure what the injury is for him but if he can’t return that’s a big blow. There does seem like there is times where the kids for Salem are not sure what is going on. This needs to be cleared up. They have a lot of work to do. PH will test them. I could see them losing on Thursday to PH. After PH they should be able to do enough to win out with the remaining schedule. If they draw a team like GW or Handley in the first round they could very well lose in the first round this year. This Spartan team probably will not have enough points to be able to host a semi game if they make it that far. I think Tusky comes out of 4C. I could also see Champe or County as a dark horse winning 4C. I used to live near Loudoun County and I saw most teams in that area play. 4C has gotten stronger over the years.
