GW 28 Glass 10 Final.

Bye week doesn’t count so technically he won’t play for a month. To me it doesn’t look like a punch. Don tried to get up off of the glass player after driving him into the turf and it looks like the glass player still had a hold of Don’s jersey, which made Don lose his balance for a second and then he used his arm to try to get back up, with a forceful push to the chest with a wide open hand. He never makes a fist. For him to potentially miss an entire month for this is crazy. A basketball player could knock someone out cold and only be out 1 week if they had 3 games in that timeframe. I would definitely appeal and if that doesn’t work, if I’m his parents I’m hiring an attorney.
I am hopeful that Glass’s administration works with GW to reduce suspension. We see A LOT WORSE barely get a period of in school suspension in the school system. From what I saw, he did not throw any punches, didn’t curse any adult out, and when it was announced he was ejected, he acted very respectful considering the circumstances. No reason to punish this young man’s future and absolute no reason that kid should be out for a month. I’m all about holding kids accountable but I believe the ejection was enough punishment.

In all, this was a huge win for GW over the region’s runner up team from a year ago. Glass is a well coached…very explosive team with athletes and our defense played lights out. We have not won in City Stadium in a long time.

GW 28 Glass 10 Final.

Good win for the Eagles! They are a great looking football team and deserved the win.

Glass finally got their weaknesses exploited. Surprised they’re not 0-3. If they can get a running game, they’ll be back. Too young on the lines and at running back this year. They’ll still be a tough squad to beat. GW was just really good and well prepared!

WF - 25 Salem - 7

“Reloading is no longer easy. Just maybe the better Roanoke Valley players are staying at home and not opting to transfer to Sparta.“

This right here is maybe why the system may be broken in reality, the old school style of play and lack of adjustment in play calling requires studs all over the field, and reloading is no longer a viable option. The numbers have been dwindling in Salem for the last 3 years. Salem no longer has a line that’s capable of bullying like in days past.
I’m not saying throw the baby out with the bath water, but there needs to be a level of adjustment from what’s being done now. Last night was hard to watch, it was like the offense was beating their head against a wall and liking it. The defense while had its struggles, did an admiralable job stopping Flemmings offense. The end play needs to improve for sure, constantly lost contain last night. I’m sure Salem will get better as the season goes on, but that ability to adjust against better opponents has to be incorporated

GW 28 Glass 10 Final.

Nope, luckily the Piedmont is weak as water. He’ll be back in 3 weeks.

Central District Class 3 Teams Start

The interior line play wasn't to bad just too many false starts and some miss blocking assignments. But they'll need to continue to improve if they're going to compete with the top teams. Quarterback Tatum is legit if he gets the blocking to protect him and he gets the chemistry with his receiver's down they can be dangerous and he can run like a deer.

2024 NOVA Pick'em Week 3 Results

It seems we validated the Blind Squirrel Theory this week, as yours truly managed to find their way to the top score. Many of the favorites won comfortably and we are also nearing the start of district play where the games usually get a bit more competitive.

Central District Class 3 Teams Start

Watched Hopewell play last night against Lake Taylor they started slow but picked up the momentum after a Lake Taylor fumble. They've a three headed monster in quarterback Tatum, running back Hunt and receive Cook. They've quite a few freshmen and sophomores and some transfers in the lineup, once they get acclimated to the system I think they're going to be really good. But the district is tough with matoaca, Dinwiddie and Dale at the top can Hopewell, Colonial Heights and Petersburg beat one of those teams to shift the balance. Hopewell plays Dinwiddie in two weeks so we will get some answers from that game. Good luck teams.
The question regarding Hopewell was their interior line play. How did they do last night @10iceiceice?

Petersburg always competes, has the athletes, but they just don't have the depth needed to beat the better teams or make a long run in the playoffs.

Hopewell has shown the ability to do both and always scares me. Not sure Hopewell can beat any of the top three teams in the Central, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. Dinwiddie will be coming off a tough game with the 2023 Class 5 state champion Maury, so the Generals need to come to play hard at Merner Field.

WF - 25 Salem - 7

The sooner, the better!! It's beyond me why some coaches are so set in their ways, that they refuse to adapt their game plan no matter how the game is going.
Wow! Salem has started 1-2 for the first time in 22 years, last year you put two guys in the SEC, have numerous state championships/championship appearances and haven't had a losing season since when?

I don't think its the system that's broke or the coaches are the problem. You guys lost a ton of talent in the past two years. Reloading is no longer easy. Just maybe the better Roanoke Valley players are staying at home and not opting to transfer to Sparta.

Everybody struggles at some point. No need to panic. Salem's district schedule (one decent opponent in PH) will allow the Spartans to get well in a hurry and they will be a major player come playoff time.
