If Varina Loses...

That's unreal! Since the Salem Spartans have a huge game against William Fleming this weekend. I don't think they are going to lose, but if they do it will be the first time they have lost two of their first three games since 2002. That is also incredible. Kudos to these teams who have maintained such a fantastic winning tradition. Good stuff @CRF4Dan .
We take for granted the success of programs or even just the consistency.

Week 2 thoughts!

I believe I saw in the paper a couple weeks ago that Steward is 6’3” 225lbs. Just got the local paper for today and saw that vs. 4A Jamestown, he had 16 carries for 209 yards and 1 TD, and 163 yards came during the 1st Q. Speed back Holmes had 14 carries for 162 yards and 5 TDs. When Bundy returns from injury, and with an O line averaging about 297 lbs from Tackle to Tackle ( all can move ) and TEs at 6’4” 210 lbs. & 225 lbs. that's going to be a mean 3 headed monster coming out the backfield for defenses to deal with…along with other capable RBs. On the other side of the ball, Essex D is solid again this year.
I’d be interested to see what they do with #3 Hence, the current QB, when Bundy returns. He’s got both speed and power.

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

Let me chime in. I think this is a very fair observation. I just think it's way too early in the season to say who's having a down year when it comes to the elite programs. What would be the reaction if and when Loren Johnson turns this thing around and HSHS is playing in mid December? People are pushing the panic button on Springs the same way they were pushing the panic button on Phoebus when they played in that scrimmage vs Maury. Champions build off adversity. Phoebus did that after getting embarrassed by Oscar Smith in 2021 and I expect Springs to do the same. They're a proven program with more of less talent. Great coaching and culture with championship proper
Pedigree.
Some teams are usually filling in new spots at the beginning of the season. Especially if you lost a lot from the previous yr. The young guys will figure it out by the playoffs. Not to mention the coaches will make changes if the players keeps struggling and another guy steps up.

If the Springers fall Friday...

2021-22 season HS lost 3 regular season games, Chambers, Martinsburg and Varina. Then won the Region title, then lost to Stone Bridge 28-26 in the Class 5 Semifinal. HS still feels the sting of that loss based on several bad calls by the officials. Stone Bridge advanced to the title game, beating Maury in the state title game.
This year's team reminds me of that years team. They got better and better as the season went on... ther is a ton of room for improvement as this year goes forward.

Week 3 Pick'em

1 point per pick, GOTW worth 2. Picks are due by Friday @ 7pm. If games are Thursday, it is your responsibility to pick game b4 game time. If games are earlier than Thursday the game will not count. No score predictions needed.

Chatham @ Martinsville
Floyd Co. @ Blacksburg
James River @ Parry McCluer
Virginia @ Radford

Christiansburg @ William Byrd

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

To be honest i thought i was just having a lil coolback and forth about football…but ok.
We are but you keep on bringing up rankings 😂 you been on that for a week now. Phoebus won 3 straight championships and will probably win it again this year. HS will at least be in their region championship. It’s my opinion that HS isn’t as strong as they’ve been but I never said they were trash or a weak opponent. Phoebus is the man until somebody beats them.

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

I think HS will be in the hunt come playoff time. They are going through growing pains; O line and D lines will be fine once they gel, along with the new QB. They'll be ready! Don't count them out this early! We'll see what they (coaches and players) learned from Phoebus on Friday when another beast arrives at Kreiter Stadium! Go Springers! One loss or 2 losses does not define a season.
I’ll tell you this the best thing that happened to Phoebus was losing to Oscar Smith 42-0 in 2021 because it inspired this run we are on now. Woke our boys up and humbled them and made them refocus.

Phoebus 23 Highland Springs 7 FINAL

You talk about big homie embarrassing Phoebus but you’re going back and forth about some rankings that a random made on the net. Just my opinion. You’re better than that OG. Good thing Northern Illinois ain’t pay attention to the “real experts” last weekend. You and I both know that rankings don’t mean a thing. Phoebus has the best win in C4 and whether HS is down or turns out to be the C6 champs, it’s hard to win over there.
