This was one of the better games I have seen in a while. Both teams moved the ball and both defenses made stops. Despite too many penalties that need to be cleaned up, more so for Westfield, the second half was well played and that allowed Westfield to come from behind to get a 24-17 win over a good Lake Braddock team.
Lake Braddock took the opening KO at their 26 yard line and went three and out, giving WF good field position at their own 49 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage WF's Carlson was picked off by LB's Mitchell at the LB 36 yard line. LB moved the ball down to the WF 10 yard line, but then WF stopped them on the one yard line on a 4th and goal from the WF 6 yard line. WF then moved the ball into LB territory where they would face a 4th and 10 at the LB 24 yard line, but the 4th down pass was incomplete. LB then went 76 yards with Bordeaux scoring on a 4 yard run for the game's first score, 7-0 LB (Barrigan XP) with 5:53 to play in the second quarter. WF's next drive started at their 20 yard line after the KO went into the end zone. WF drove down the field, with the big play a 42 yard Lee run to the LB 31 yard line, and evened the score at 7-7 when H. Johnson ran it in from the eight yard line (Wiemann XP) with 2:40 remaining in the half. LB's next possession was three plays that netted nine yards and they lined up to punt. The snap went to the up blocking back, Pane, who rumbled 14 yards to the LB 45 yard line for a first down. WF then had a series of penalties that netted LB 30 yards and LB took advantage to score on a 22 yard Suris to Austin pass (Barrigan XP) with 43 seconds to play in the half to take a 14-7 lead into the locker room.
WF received the ball to start the second half and moved 61 yards to the LB 19 yard line where they faced 4th and three. The LB defense held up, stopping the run a yard short and LB took over on their own 17 yard line, but they quickly went three and out to give WF great field position on the LB 44 yard line. WF again drove into the LB red zone but this time had to settle for a 22 yard Wiemann FG to pull WF to within 14-10 with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter. LB's next possession was another three and out and WF took over on their own 20 yard line when LB's 54 yard punt just rolled into the end zone. On this drive, WF's Carlson found Rafee streaking down the home sideline to gain 73 yards on a pass to the LB 3 yard line where he was pushed out of bounds. Two plays later WF's Carlson ran it in from 2 yards out to give WF their first lead, 17-14 (Wiemann XP) with 7:28 remaining in the game. LB started their next possession on their own 20 yard line and after a holding penalty, a run for a one yard loss, an incomplete pass, and a scramble for seven yards they had to punt from their own 16 yard line. WF's Morin returned the punt 16 yards to the LB 34 yard line and WF was looking at a chance to put the game away. WF did score when Duda took the ball 22 yards to the end zone, the last seven in a large scrum of players, to put WF ahead 24-14 (Wiemann XP) with 4:03 remaining in the game. LB now went to a hurry up passing offense and reached the WF 10 yard line where they faced a 4th and 8. Needing two scores, they elected to go for a 26 yard Barrigan FG to cut the lead to 24-17 with 1:25 to play. The onside kick was recovered by WF and that allowed them to go into victory formation to get the 24-17 win.
