They could care less about football out there. Vern took a yearly homecoming punching bag and made KG what they are. Said it last year, saying it now, that staff from top to bottom is top 5 in the state.

Rural Retreat @ Rye Cove

Aside from the first 5 minutes of the first quarter this game was all Rye Cove. Rural Retreat came out strong and took off for a 50 yard touchdown followed by an interception. From that point on it was all Rye Cove between Carter Roach-Hodge, Will Rollins, and Landon Lane. The War Eagles also got Blake Goins back tonight for the first time in about 8+ weeks.

For those who thought Salems defense had improved

Handley played great game. Had the lead 28-23 with 9 minutes left and Salem on their own 20. Salem got in the power I and ran right at Handley. 5 yards in a cloud of dust. Woody Hayes would have been proud. Salem went 80 yards never throwing a pass and scores with 1:09 left ( on a 4th and 2 from the 2 running straight ahead). The Salem offense is good. That's not their problem.
But they are 9-2 and have a win in the playoffs. The defense is (let's be kind) suspect.

Yeah that was pretty brutal to watch. Salem's defense got run up and down the field by a team missing their QB and running two different plays to the same side of the field for an entire game. I really don't even have it in me to list all the issues they have defensively and will hold my tongue.

Good job by the offense playing well and being clutch when it counted the most though.
