What caught my eye this week?

PS, I’m sitting on my porch with my wife, pretending like I’m doing something vital, instead of getting off my butt and doing something that REALLY needs doing. Like beginning to wage war on the leaves. So if she ask you, tell her the entire football season will be cancelled if I don’t make this post.

A lot of neat stuff this week.

Colonial Heights blocking Caroline’s 19 yard field goal attempt as time expired to preserve the win.

Chilhowie scored with four seconds on the clock but could not convert the 2 point attempt and lost to Rye Cove 39-40.

Hayfield got beat. What’s next, Maury getting beat???

Fuel up the busses. Northampton on the Eastern Shore has rolled off six straight wins. And are highly favored to win their last two games, to finish 8-2. Somebody will be making the long but beautiful trek across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel for a first round playoff game. (I assume Region 1A sends 8 to the playoffs?)

Little ole Randolph Henry in Charlotte County won their second game. And there is scuttlebutt that Amelia, whom
R-H beat, is going to fold up shop and end their season early.

Another story that is not specifically game related is; I heard that Bland County is ineligible for the playoffs. By rule, they are ineligible because they don’t play a complete district schedule. Their Region has the right to grant a waiver, but they voted not to. Pretty much irrelevant anyway, because their chances of qualifying on their record is pretty low.

I noted that Appomattox has won three in a row. I know their victories have not been over particularly good teams, but glad to see them winning.

I was slightly surprised that Manchester beat Bird. And surprised that Kings Fork didn’t didn’t give Oscar Smith a better challenge. And Kecoughtan has scored points for two games in a row!! Lest you not appreciate it, that’s the only points they have scored all year, sans a safety in their first game.

I don’t know about you guys, but I still find it astonishing that Lake Taylor has won only two games this year, after losing to Churchland Friday night. And Hampton’s skid has been a little longer than LT’s, but the idea that the Crabbers would be beaten so soundly, shut out in fact, by Warwick would get you laughed off these boards just a few years ago. Sure Hampton has six wins, but look at who they beat. The only three decent teams they played beat them, two of which beat the socks off them. My, how times have changed.

Enough from me. How about you. Did you see anything that made you say WHAT!?

Region C standings

1. Glenvar (7-1). 21.250
Glenvar has Carroll and Floyd left and should win both finishing 9-1 and locking up 1st in region.
2. Gretna (5-3). 20.375
Gretna has Chatham and William Campbell left and should easily win both finishing 7-3. Have Radford beating Carroll and will get 2 spot by 7 points having Gretna finishing in 3rd. Only chance for 2 spot would be a Carroll win over Radford.
3. Radford (6-3) 20.223
Radford only has Carroll left. A win will have them finishing 2 a loss 3.
4. Floyd (5-3) 19.875
Floyd has Glenvar and Allegheny left and most likely lose both finishing 5-5 and pretty set in 4 spot at 19.900.
5. Nelson (5-3) 17.500
Nelson only has AltaVista left which most likely they lose. That has them finishing in 6 spot at 18.333.
6. Appomattox (3-6). 17.000
Appomattox only has Dan River left which they should win finishing 4-6 in 5 spot at 18.900.
7. Patrick (3-6) 16.333
Patrick only has James River left which I have them winning. That would land them 7 or 8 spot depending on how Martinsville finishes. A loss to James River I still have them in at 8.
8. Martinsville (3-5). 16.250
Martinsville has Bassett and Halifax left. If they win one of those they finish in 7 at 17.900 have them 4 pts ahead of Patrick. If they lose both will finish 8 unless Patrick loses which would put them back at 7. If they could win both would jump them up to 5.
9. Dan River (2-6). 14.375
Dan River has William Campbell and Appo left. Have them beating WC but want be enough to make playoffs.
10. Liberty (0-8) 14.000
Liberty loses out.
11. Chatham (3-4). 13.571
Chatham has Gretna and AltaVista left and will lose both and miss playoffs.
12. James River (1-7) 13.250
James River has Allegheny and Patrick left. Have them losing both and missing playoffs. A win against Patrick wouldn't be enough.
Here's my matchup predictions.
8 Patrick @ 1 Glenvar
7 Martinsville @ 2 Radford
6 Nelson @ 3 Gretna
5 Appomattox @ 4 Floyd

Strasburg at Clarke County Bull Run Game of the week

This is the biggest game of the year for both teams and the Bull Run.

Clarke does what Clarke always does. They want to control the line of scrimmage and run it down your throat. Palmer is a stud at running back. Sipe holds it down at the quarterback position.

Strasburg likes to run it as well. Strasburg has four backs I believe over 300 yards rushing. They have brusier in Bozworth, Speedster in Coates and Martinez is a mix of both.

The key to this game for me is which set of hogs upfront can win the battle in the trenches.
