My proposed realignment - 3A

Hi all. I had some fun and did this last year with what I think was a four class setup, but I wanted to try things based on the recent ADM to slot teams into districts based on proximity and size in a six class setup.

I've divided all the schools on the ADM report into six equal classes and developed districts on that. My geography may not be all that great so if I didn't slot a team in a preferred district, I don't have it out for your school and it wasn't intentional. I looked at the map of Virginia and put schools in districts starting with District 1 - 3A in the west to District 8 - 3A which goes into the east.

One thing that is different about this time is that the districts aren't of equal size.

And you have to play everyone in your district. This makes district champions matter again!

The top four teams in each district would make the playoffs and would play their partner district in the bi-district round to start the playoffs. It would look something like this:

#1 District 1 - 3A hosts #4 District 2 - 3A
#2 District 2 - 3A hosts #3 District 1 - 3A

#2 District 1 - 3A hosts #3 District 2 - 3A
#1 District 2 - 3A hosts #4 District 1 - 3A

Higher seed hosts but if two teams meet in the third round (Regional Final) and they have the same rankings from bi-district, then the team that would host would be derived from a tiebreaker scenario which would be uniform across the VHSL.

The same format would be the same for Districts 3 thru 8.

Region I would be District 1 - 3A and District 2 - 3A
Region II would be District 3 - 3A and District 4 - 3A
Region III would be District 5 - 3A and District 6 - 3A
Region IV would be District 7 - 3A and District 8 - 3A

So here we go with my little project! And remember, your team has to go somewhere. And if I separated teams that are in the same county or nearby, it wasn't intentional.

Phoebus vs Oscar Smith

On paper Smith is the bigger team. I believe speed wise, they are about the same. Phoebus goes into this game knowing what to expect from Smith. Alot of kids return from Phoebus from last years match up. I expect a better game from Phoebus this year but will it be enough. I don't know. Should be exciting and a packed house at Darling Stadium on Saturday. This is for bragging rights on Hampton roads. Both teams are champions and are number seeds in the respected division. Hopefully both teams come out healthy after the contest. May the best team win!

1A and 1B playoff picture with one week left

Region A
1 Essex 9-0 24.44
8 Colonial Beach 1-8 11.33

4 West Point 5-4 16.67
5 Westmoreland 3-5 16.50

3 Northumberland 6-2 19.12
6 Rappahannock 5-4 16.22

2 King & Queen 8-1 19.67
7 Northampton 4-5 13.89

Region B
1 Riverheads 7-1 26.00

4 Sussex Central 5-4 17.33
5 Franklin 4-5 16.11

2 Lunenburg Cent 9-0 24.67

3 Buffalo Gap 5-4 20.11
6 Surry Co 3-6 14.11

In Region A the top 3 are basically locks. 4,5,6 could shift some in the last week. This is Essex's region to lose as the have dominated every regional opponent they have played.
In Region B the top 3 are locks as well. Not exactly sure if Lunenburg Central can catch Riverheads for the top spot. Also with only 6 teams competing in the Region B playoffs William Campbell trails Surry by .11111 points for the final spot. IF both lose Friday it will be close as Campbell has 2A opponent Dan River to finish the season and Surry has 1A Sussex.
