Riverheads Shuts Out RappCo to punch ticket to state tournament.

The Fitzgerald cousins, sophomore Ethan and freshman Holden, combined to twirl a five hitter at visiting Rappahannock County this evening as the Big Red took advantage of much more pleasant than expected weather conditions and posted a 5-0 shutout over the visiting Panthers. With the win the Gladiators will now advance to the Region 1-B championship game against William Campbell but more importantly, they will also advance to state tournament play.

Fans in the stands were checking on the WC game throughout the evening, as the number 5 seeded Generals hit the road for the second time in the playoffs and for the second time, surprised the home team as they too posted a shutout, 6-0 in fact over the number one seed Buffalo Gap. As a result the Bison season will end sooner than expected and there will be no matchup of county rivals to decide the regional crown.

I just wanted to say that you sir, for posting so many of the schedules. Until the League finishes getting all the information that is required, and then post the Master Schedule, it’s nice to have the schedules. LOL, I always say that any tidbits of information provided during the doldrums is like a fix for a drug addict. Thank you EP.

More old scores found for Highland Springs, Thomas Dale, Varina and the old Glen Allen (Hermitage).

Newspapers.com has added Richmond area newspapers and the Richmond News Leader is now online. This has enabled me to find a handful of missing games. I honestly believe every Highland Springs game is now accounted for! More Varina and the old Glen Allen High scores were also found and I believe all the Glen Allen games are now accounted for. Still looking for a few Varina games. Many new games have been found for Thomas Dale (Chester High at the time) but many are still unaccounted for as their history goes way back. But nevertheless lots of new information for those that like such things is on the site www.fourseasonsfootball.com .

King William Baseball & Softball

KW baseball won today over Windsor 4-0. Sophomore pitcher Daniel Burton pitched a one hitter with 14 Ks. KW is the 2 seed and will next host 3 seed Randolph Henry on Tuesday. This is a very young KW team that starts 6 sophomores and can go 5 deep in their pitching staff. The ace is Burton and he showed why today.

KW softball won today over Nandua 2-1 on a walkoff single by Annabelle Townsend. The Lady Cavs are the 3 seed and will travel to 2 seed Randolph Henry on Tuesday. This one could be a pitcher's duel between KW junior Taylor Johnson who is a JMU commit and RH junior Danner Allen who is a Liberty commit. The Lady Cavs like the baseball team are very young, as they start 3 sophomores and 3 freshmen and will return nearly their entire team next season.

News Troy Terry Returns to the Sidelines

Troy Terry is returning to the sidelines. Terry has been named the new Head Girls Basketball Coach of the Oscar Smith Tigers in Chesapeake.

Terry's last coaching gig was a rather successful one, leading Western Branch to an overall record of 215-84 (.719) in 12 seasons. His teams won at least 15 games in 11 of those 12 years at the helm, which included his final one in 2018-19 when the Bruins reached the Class 6 State Tournament quarterfinals and finished as regional runner-up to Landstown.

"I'm so excited to be back doing what I love and have dedicated much of my life to," Terry told VirginiaPreps.com. "I'm very appreciative of the opportunity to be coaching at a great place like Oscar Smith."

Ironically, Oscar Smith's 2022-23 campaign ended in a loss to Terry's old school, where Western Branch ousted the Tigers 70-38 in the opening round of the Region 6A Tournament. That ended a 6-17 season that saw the Tigers conclude on a seven-game losing skid.
