I usually go to the softball games but since the girls went to Nottoway (and won in 12 innings), I went to the baseball game. Sure glad I did! Madison was 11-12 going into the game against the 20-2 Statesmen. In one of the best games I have seen in a long time, MC won on a walk off single by Chris Smith in the bottom of the eighth to advance to the East Region final and earn a berth in the State tournament in Radford next week. Both the Madison and Goochland boys and girls teams will be in Radford.

Can you explain why the #1 seed with a 20-2 record had to travel to #2 11-12? That is pretty messed up!

What conference travels where and when is determined in the summer...way before even the regular season begins.

That is not what cost R-H this game. From the fans pre-game comments and even a few from the players, they had already won this one and had reservations in Radford. Never a good idea to count your chickens before the eggs hatch!

Madison baseball has a relatively long record of winning the games they have to win to advance. I believe this is their third trip to the State tourney with a team hovering around .500 in the last few years.

Thanks for the input. Didn't realize it was predetermined at that point in the playoffs. Of course, that did not cost them the game. Not making the key plays at key times was their downfall according to what I heard. Madison evidently played well and won. Good luck to them.
