2A Boys Semifinal Predictions:

Let's hear it fellas! Whats your thoughts and predictions on the matchups between Mason vs Greensville and Martinsville vs. Gate City.

All i know about Mason is that Graham took them to the wire by playing tough, hard nosed basketball....despite the Gmen shooting very poorly in the first half. I also know that Greensville beat a very athletic Dan River team and they seem to have an inside threat and good defense in the paint as well. Peebles was hard to stop for DR. I'll make what I'd call a somewhat educated guess and say:

George Mason - 76
Greensville - 68

The other game..... I have no clue how it will turn out. Don't know which GC team will show up. Their story has been that of Jekyl and Hyde all season long..... Constantly up and down and known for playing to the level of their competition. I'll refrain from even making a prediction but I think if both teams play their best basketball it will be less than a 7 pt victory for whoever wins.

I guess you can tell from my username where my allegiances lie. When you get to the Final Four there are no easy games. Its all about the matchups...who can impose their "will" over their opponents and make them play "their" game. And also, whose players show up and perform when the lights are bright in these big game scenarios.
Martinsville has a team that is centered on their defense and it has served them very well in winning last years championship and getting an opportunity to repeat again this year. The old saying that "defense always travels well".....can mean a lot in a tournament situation with everything on the line.
This years Bulldog squad, anchored by Devonnte Holland, our programs all time leading scorer, along with fellow seniors Jay Dandridge and Cam Bradley, and juniors Zanthus Hairston and Aaron Martin have been through these battles before....so they know what its all about.
Gate City has already shown they aren't intimidated by the Bulldogs and the other bracket with an undefeated George Mason and a Greensville Co. team that also has tournament experience make this a very tough final four for anyone to win.
All the games should be close and competitive if teams play up to their capabilities....but my heart has to pick the defending champions to hang up banner #15 in the Doghouse.
It should be fun....let the games begin!

As a neutral observer on all four teams I am going with Greensville to end Masons undefeated streak. Peebles will be the difference in this one. I also will stick with Martinsville to win as they were my preseason pick but my gut is telling me GC will pull the upset. In the championship game I will go with Martinsville since that's who I originally picked from the start. Should be a great final four and honestly wouldn't be surprised to see any of the four teams take home the trophy. Best of luck to all four teams as I think the real winners will be the fans as they get to see what should be some tremendous games
