Martinsville 2-1 Magna Vista: Martinsville inches closer to winning the Conference once more. They have a tough matchup with Bassett left...and the others they should take easily.
Giles 8-0 Floyd: It was no contest I am assuming. Floyd's keeper play is simply disgusting, so this score line is no great shock.
Glenvar 5-0 Perry McClure: Another win for the Salem kids to get them the 4 spot in conference over Floyd.
John Battle 2-0 Central: I believe is what I saw. No idea what this score could mean.
Mason 8-0 Some other school...
Dan River played Appomattox but no score is posted for the game.
I know Giles wraps up regular season play this week, as does Galax in 1A. Some other schools may be finishing off as well. Now we get ready for a fun second season.

How does soccer postseason work? Are there district/conference tournaments, or just regions?

I saw that. So it would be them and Graham I think as the 1/2.
Graham also won 9-1 over Fort Chiswell
Giles handed Glenvar the worst loss of their season last night 8-0...on senior night no less...ouch
George Washington beat Martinsville 2-0.
And Mason stomped somebody...again

Both JR girls and boys with 8-0 wins over Bath county, both teams play LB tonight, one of the girls 2 losses came from LB early in season the other to Radford. The JR boys took the first game at home, since then they have both lost starting goalies but LB was also down 3 starters? in the first game who have since returned. LB also on home field so likely be a tough game for JR.

It looks like JR is cemented in at 3 in conference play no matter what the outcome...unless tie breaker is something shady...Now it is down to Giles/Martinsville for the 1 spot. And I am certain neither team wants to have to face James River opening round so that will be an interesting development.

Floyd beat Auburn last night 2-1 and the keeper had 7 great saves. I had the opportunity to watch this game last night and I would say the keeper play was definitely not disgusting. He is a very talented keeper so maybe he had an off night at Giles. Although Floyd is not likely to win conference or region play any time soon, the improvements they are making are impressive.

Sorry if you disagree, but I have also seen this team twice (once with Giles and once with James River). The most telling part is to watch warm up. He spends most of it sitting in the shade while the backup actually does warm up. Perhaps the word "disgusting" gives a strong connotation, but I'm a simple man and that word fits.

From yesterday: (Thanks to the Bristol Herald Courier)

Gate City 3-2 Lee High
Tyler Hamilton scored three goals, including the game winner in overtime, as Gate City eked out a win.

Glenvar lost to Radford last night. (More on that on the 1A thread) 3-2.
Floyd beats Grayson 2-0. Doesn't change the seeding in conference. Those are the 4/5 teams.
The race for that conference is between Martinsville and Giles for 1/2.
I think I read that Virginia High wrapped up the 1 seed in their conference (Richlands may still be in it).
Graham and Richlands are probably the 2/3 in 39.
Not sure on Dan River, Appomattox, Randolph-Henry in the other.
As for conference 40...I have no idea.

I was told last night that due to a graduation conflict with George Mason the VHSL done scheduling changes for the tournament? I hope it hasn't gotten that political :(

Their AD does a lot of State Tournament planning, so that is entirely possible. I know in region we have done that before as well. One year that had to play back to back to back because graduation just fell in at weird points.

Giles handily beats Radford 5-2 last night. That wraps them up as the one seed in Conference. Now they just have to keep a very young squad humble and hungry.
Martinsville lost 1-0 at Bassett. I think there was a little cockiness at play here. But it was a result the sealed the at the 2 seed regardless.
Graham handles Marion 8-0 last night. Also saw that they cut season down to 14 games. Interesting move.
Glenvar and Floyd play Friday. The winner will face Giles...I believe...Martinsville will face James River in opening round.

Now the fun begins, not sure how Martinsville actually stacks up against the rest of the conference since I don't think they play anyone in common. They likely play one of the toughest schedules in 2A though. I do know JR gave them all they wanted last year in a 1-0 loss for the conference championship they would also like another crack at Giles after a tie there and a 3-2 loss at home. Next week will be interesting.

2A West scores from yesterday (Thanks to the Bristol Herald Courier):

Girls:

John Battle 4-2 Gate City

Melina Turner and Emily Wilson scored in overtime as the John Battle Trojans moved within one win of earning an automatic bid to the VHSL Region 2A West tournament.
Battle grabbed a 2-0 lead at halftime thanks to goals from Colleen Haderer and Sasha Haderer, but Gate City forced OT as Callie McMurray and Morgan Ann Baker collected second half goals.
Battle (12-3) also got several clutch stops from goalkeeper Cortney Kinder.

Boys:

Virginia High 3-1 Richlands

Evan Harr scored two goals as Virginia High earned a victory over Richlands and wrapped up the Southern Empire Conference regular season title.
Daniel Edwards added a goal and Lane Carroll dished out an assist for the Bearcats (12-2-1), who wrap up the regular season on Thursday against Grayson County at Sugar Hollow Park.

Gate City 3-1 John Battle
Tyler Gardner, Amariah Gardner and Tyler Hamilton scored goals as Gate City bested John Battle.
Andrew Bowers assisted on Landon Casteel's goal for John Battle's only score.

From what I have heard from Floyd AD, if Floyd were to beat Glenvar then they would host the first round of conference on Monday and will play Glenvar again.

They also face each other tomorrow not Friday.

They should play each other in the first round on Monday regardless, site would likely be at higher seeds home field. It's a "play-in" game to eliminate one team to set up the semifinals, which I think will be at Martinsville with Giles vs floyd/glenvar winner from monday and martinsville vs JR. Boys play wednesday, girls thursday? with finals for both on friday maybe?

I'm sorry about the date mixup. Martinsville is down by all accounts this year...but that doesn't mean they are bad. Martinsville's schedule shows conference play will be Monday and Wednesday for the fellas...not sure on accuracy, but that is the closest to something in writing I can find. So what does that mean for the play in? I think it was hoped that the play-in would be Friday of this week...and that may in fact be so.
I wish James River the best of luck. I have always been so impressed with that team's respect for the game and opponent. Also a big fan of a physical/fundamental style of play. Not flashy, but always wins. May have to make that drive for both of the showdowns on Monday.
Hopefully tourney schedules will be posted on vhsl for all conferences by Friday.

OK, here is the word on Conference for these few schools. (coach test me like two minutes ago)
Monday: Floyd/Glenvar (at whoever wins tonight)
Wednesday: Giles v. Floyd/Glenvar winner from Monday
Martinsville v. James River both games played in Martinsville at the complex.
Thursday: Championship game. I'm calling upset. Giles v. James River in the final.

No word on the other west conferences yet. Will on that soon. I think brackets will be posted by tomorrow.

8 of JR's starters, 4 Sr's, 2 JR's and 2 Soph's started last year as well. They have been in it before so they will be hungry. I'm thinking any of the top 3 teams can take it. Will have to wait and see on the weather and it's impact as well. I do know after JR got screwed at Chatham in the regions last year the rules have changed as to when a game can be called due to weather.

They know how to fight and win that is for sure. They will certainly have a tougher road playing Martinsville and Giles back to back. That one seed is really going to matter this year.

Glenvar 1-1 Floyd. That should finalize the tournament. Floyd will play at Glenvar for the 4/5 game. Winner will face Giles on Wednesday.
Still no word on the others...

I did see that Grayson lost to Virginia High last night. But looking at point totals it looks like they will come in ahead of Graham...interesting. Looks like Richlands is coming in above those two as well. VAHS may be the one...and then those are the 2-4?
